Who Hires Former Edmonton Oilers Head Coach Jay Woodcroft?

The NHL season is winding down, and teams that have or will be firing their head coaches have a pretty big fish they could land. Jay Woodcroft has been without a job since Novemeber when the Edmonton Oilers fired him.

  1. As good as the Oilers have been under Knobloch, I still don't think Woodcroft was the problem at the start of the season. He just happened to be the fall guy when the team couldn't get it together quick enough. I do agree that he got outcoached in the Vegas series, but I think the Oilers were bound to turn it around this season with or without him. Hope he gets another shot as head coach in the show.

  2. Fire knob and guletzen and bring in berube and womeone else this offseason if we dont win the cup.

  3. Here's my breakdown: Jay Woodcroft and Dave Manson had a great record as an NHL coaching duo. The Oilers struggled mightily to start this season, and when Jay and Dave were let go, a very loud and vocal section of the fandom repeated that the Oiler's record wasn't Jay's fault, that it was Connor's injury and Holland's mess that was at fault, and that Jay and Dave should not have been let go. I don't think there is any disputing that this was what was said by many, the internet preserves their words forever. I thought it funny; Jay was the reason for the Oiler's previous great record, but he was not at fault for when their record stunk. Curious, I thought. Chris Knoblauch came in, a rookie NHL head coach, and he was partnered with a man who had never coached before, Paul Coffey. These two were able to completely turn around the fortunes of this team, which at one point seemed destined to miss the playoffs this year. So, my thoughts on Jay and Dave go like this: they are completely likeable characters/people, and I truly wish them well wherever they go, whatever they do. But I find it Very telling that nobody (yet) has lined up to get permission to hire them. I think NHL savvy people, know what we as fans sometimes do not. Jay and Dave were asked to change the defensive systems of this team in training camp. They failed. They could not get the team to change, or be confident with the change, or to execute properly the new systems. Chris and Paul came in, and over the course of a few weeks, got the team to believe in the new system, and to execute it properly more times than not. Chris and Paul did not have NHL coaching experience. Jay and Dave did, but could not get the job done. I am not very confident that either Jay or Dave will be offered any NHL coaching jobs going forward. These are my honest thoughts on the subject.

  4. Oilers are screwed if we have to play Canucks or Stars to get to the final and I don't think we have a tough enough team to win the cup.
