The best thing about Graf is his age (21) which means he is closer to being an NHL player. Check your stats and you will observe that there are very few 18, 19 or 20 year olds playing regular roster. There are about 800-900 players active in NHL in any season with 32 teams. There were only 12 teenagers in whole NHL for opening day rosters (707 total), so only 12 players aged 18 or 19. I find the hype around 18 year old draft picks irrational, fanboy nonsense. The player development process is fascinating due to its complexity, luck elements and other unpredictable factors in cultivating raw 18 year olds into 21 year old graduates of school of hard knocks and self-reliance. Sharks have not kept up to rival teams in this development process during last 5 years of no playoffs and struggling team chemistry. It is enough hockey torture to turn a good coach into a depressed serial sad sack with prerogative over ice time and a shaky hand on steering wheel, heading for the ditch. Pierre McGuire is right that the Sharks re-build will be taking 5 to 7 years and Sharks fans are going to miss many more rounds of playoffs before the team is turned around. Since Mike Grier took over in July 2022 and has a more than 7 year task on his hands, it will around 2029 before Sharks fans can stop singing "I can't get no satisfaction!"
