Will the Kings miss the playoffs?

Are the Kings in real danger of missing the playoffs? LA’s lead over the St. Louis Blues for the final wildcard spot in the West is at just 3 points after a loss to the Jets and the Blues OT win over the Oilers. I will answer that question and more on this edition of Locked on LA Kings.

  1. I think they'll make it. The Blues are so inconsistent and the Wild are too far back. You should be fine.

Besides the Kings don't like it easy. You guys play better as the underdog

  2. Long diatribe…

The DNA of this team is just flat. There is zero heavy play from anyone on this roster and this has been a consistent issue during Blake’s tenure. Rob put a roster together like it's the post Gretzky era before he ripped the C off and bailed.
This team lacks truculence, snarl, grit…whatever adjective you want to use. Blake has a cap maxed team so razor thin on space that he has to do cap gymnastics just to ice a roster and yet this team is now 3 points away from the outside looking in. This roster desperately needed heart cut from the cloth of Williams/Reggie/Mitchell/Greener and #4 pushed the chips all in on 22 and 80 at 7 plus years.

Bang up job Spicoli, well done.

At this point, the Kings don't DESERVE to be in the postseason and that is a shame to waste yet another year from their franchise legend and captain.

Gut it all in a few weeks. Blake, Murray, Storr, Emerson, especially Luc and Bergy…all of em', they gotta go. Give these clowns their permanent surfing papers and don't look back.

Then the next GM can decide if they want to hitch this franchise for another 7 seasons to #80 or realistically look to deal or buyout. Adios to 33 and 3 (who should have been dealt for a high pick or prospect at the TDL), get this team back to some cap space to improve the roster going forward.

In the end, just, wow…this may be one of the most spectacular regular season collapses when all is said and done.

  3. We need a new system, new coach badly, and players who wanna play! I feel like Moore fell off a cliff, others just don’t care or try. Idk why Moore whenever he shoots he ONLY shoots top corner. Dude needs to wake up

  4. They better make playsoff. We won’t end up with a good draft pick we won’t get a new player to improve this sloppy team

  5. The fact that the Kings are spending to the cap and with 8 games left may not make the playoffs or only make it because of such an easy ending schedule tells you changes are needed. In addition the fact that people are hoping for a miracle once in the playoffs tells you how bad this team is

  6. They don't deserve playoffs. PLD has been a bust and when they went into the slump they pretty much sealed their fate. If they get in they won't get out of the first round. Kings are my team and always will be, I just don't see them crushing it the rest of season like they need to.

  7. Kings bottom lines need to contribute more. Team is not built to have the top line carry the team every game.

  8. Lizzy is a hard working player but gets pushed around to much. Size is needed to win at the nhl level.

  9. 2012 coyotes would have probably swept this current lineup. Even if kings do make the playoffs, heads should roll from top to bottom, and I would love to see the team under new ownership who actually gives a hoot about hockey side of things instead of just profits. Putting Akil Thomas and Kalyiev for a total of 3 plus minutes each on the ice was not only an insult to both players but to Thomas's family, who drove hundreds of miles to see him play.

  10. So Looking at it (as of 12:58 AM PST on April 3rd), these are the scenarios in which St Louis, Minnesota, and Seattle can possibly get ahead of us…

If the Kings lose out (all in regulation, which i doubt happens)
    – St Louis only needs 4 points to finish ahead (in which case i'd say that actually happens since 2 of the Blues remaining games are against the Ducks and Sharks)
    – Minnesota only needs 7 points to finish ahead (which amounts to 4 wins, or 3 wins plus an OT loss where they DON'T do what they did against Vegas recently)
    – Seattle needs 13 points to finish ahead (which only gives them room to lose one game in regulation IF it's not tonight's game against us, so they can probably be counted out as far as being a threat to us goes)

If the Kings only beat SJ, Anaheim, and Chicago (Finishing with 95, which would beat Vegas if they win no more than 1 game or lose 2 in OT, and ould tie Edmonton if they lose out all in regulation)
    – St Louis needs 12 points to finish ahead (which only leaves them room to lose 1 game in regulation, and they still have Nashville, Carolina, and Dallas on their schedule)
    – Minnesota needs 15 points to finish ahead (so any loss will eliminate them from our radar)
    – Seattle would be unable to beat us as they can only finish with 91 points.

Essentially, The favorable schedule does give the Kings a relatively easy road to the playoffs assuming they don't blow one or more of their games against significantly lesser teams out of their rear ends.

  11. This team is treading water. Its time for a complete overhaul, President, GM, Coach, system all needs to be flushed. Bring in a new GM and Coach that bring a new philosophy for a modern game. Kings are stuck in the past, time to for a fresh start, this rebuild has yielded no results.

  12. Current management has no sense for offensive energies. They sign elite looking players to the big contracts…whose contributions amount to quality complementary moments. The role players are carrying them on the smaller contracts.

Management would do well to find the offensive players on struggling teams who show a knack for scoring consistently.

Coach sounding the eternal optimist tones…when time is short..and a sense of urgency..much needed!!

  13. I think the Blues will run out of season to catch us, which is unfortunate because if we did miss the playoffs, hopefully Blake and Luc are let go..if we do make it in, does anyone here seriously believe we could beat the Oilers or Dallas ?

  14. In or Out of playoffs This Kings team is Average at Best with most of the players with no heart Gritt energy physicality or desire and definitely needs a Complete Overhaul from the very top to the Bottom. Blake is destroying this team and Luc is watching it happen! Both need to go NOW! Hiller Lewis and PLD OUT! The nail to the coffin was the PLD Deal and should be dumped before his full no-move clause that kicks in this summer!!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. Eddie, I suppose it's in your best interests to always be upbeat/positive in your discussions. What comes out of it is we all-basically-like you. But when it comes down to a team who's owners have left their hands off and have provided whatever money is necessary to win/right up/over the CAP and the guys just don't have any heart, perhaps it's just time to tear 'em down and bury the losers. First to go should be Blake. I have no loyalty at all towards him. Let's not slide any credit/s to him for 2012/'14. Dean Lombardi was in charge back then. Luc will always be a hero and he did win us the Cup. There are plenty of unemployed Gm's who know how to put a winning team together. And, hopefully, most of them don't make their choices based on the Edmonton Oilers setup…after all, L.A. is not gonna win the #1 draft pick-so long as bettman is alive! Finally, let's not fall to the moment and blame Trevor Moore for missing the net. Things happen. If any of you have ever skated a single minute of your lives, you know that things happen on ice. In fact, with big, burly hockey players skating towards you, it's extremely hard to focus on just putting a rubber puck into the net. Stuff happens…

  16. I am not a Kings fan by any stretch, but the biggest issue I see in LA is PLD. He's been a bust pretty much everywhere he has been other than a single year or two that for some reason people think they can capture after a trade. Then he just fades away…..

  17. You took the refereeing in the Jets game much better than I did. I thought the refereeing was suspect and a lot of missed calls on both sides. I think it makes it hard for a team to play but to be fair that might be getting you ready for playoff hockey when it gets a little loose
