Caps and Penguins really are Yin and Yang. One has great underlying metrics yet can't seem to get a win, the other has horrible metrics yet keeps winning.
It's been fun seeing the Caps actually embrace their young players and Spencer Carbery's system. They've gone from an old, slow, and stale group to a compelling blend of youth and experience. The vets look much more engaged, while the young guys add a level of hunger and speed that was missing. And of course, Lindgren has just transcended the mortal realm to become a demigod. It's not an elite group by any means, but they are playing very good hockey.
Calling Miroshnichenko and Lapierre "prospects that nobody were that good" is just wrong. They were high-risk high-reward players due to injuries (Lapierre) or cancer (Miro). Both players would have likely gone in the top 10 of those drafts, and before he got cancer some outlets has Miroshnichenko potentially being the best skater in that draft class.
Also, for those younger prospects/players, that Calder Cup run with Hershey was likely huge for their development. None of them look out of place or too big for the moment

The Caps GM is a dumbass and didn't use all the talent available in Hershey.
As a caps fan we’ve been calling for giving our youth chances for years, now we have half the hershey bears roster- It’s great!
