Vince Young and Jeff Fisher were destined to beef

Sometimes beef cannot be escaped. If the right (or, wrong?) individuals are put together, a personal feud can become their destiny. Some say anyone is capable of change, but when you’re the longest-tenured coach in the league or one of the most incredible college football players of all time, why bother changing? Why not force others to change and just keep doing what’s worked? Immovable object, allow me to introduce you to unstoppable force.

Vince Young and Jeff Fisher could have sidestepped any animosity and found ways to propel each other to additional greatness. Thankfully for our sake, they did not.

  1. This happens every year in the NFL because coaches are egomaniacs. Every single time.
    1) Draft athletic QB.
    2) QB gets in mid-season and has flashes of brilliance being the athletic QB he is.
    3) Coaches decide next season "that won't work in the NFL" and try to make him a pocket passer.
    4) Athletic QB struggles as pocket passer.
    5) Bad times are had by all.

  2. This entire thing was so silly. You hire the USC player caller to have an offense that accommodates Matt Leinart, and your head coach openly doesn’t want Vince Young so why wouldn’t you just draft Leinart? But even so the owner wanted VY and forced the pick so why would you not design the offense to accommodate the skillset that VY has? Instead of choosing one of the two simple options to have a chance to succeed you choose both of the options that do the opposite.

  3. His name being spelled wrong verifies what the word was on vince.. he was too dumb to b a great nfl QB

  4. He sucked and he was always going to suck. The dude couldn't read a defense or a book.

  5. Vince was too soft for nfl.
He ran into Merriman and injured himself. Then Fisher puts a hit out on Shawne and C kevin mawae jumps on his leg after a play and blew his knee out.. unravelling his career. They hurt Rivers, Merriman and Neal in that game. The dirtiest game I ever watched. Dec 10 2007. Im pretty sure.

  6. I got drunk with Jeff one night during Titans Training camp in 06. He said the right things about VY, but I can hear in his voice he hated him.

  7. We always only hear about VY’s struggles but to know Jeff Fisher was an absolute asshat and the multiple player interviews about Fishers deficiencies.. that seems to go completely uncovered.

  8. Young was a spoiled rotten little brat. Who thought everybody owed him something and that he was the next coming when he wasn't that good.

  9. once he could'nt run it was over. he did no film, no extra work and he was a premadona and not talented. he could run and thats it. and throwing his pads in the crowd is unacceptable. shut your mouth put the work in and be a man

  10. Fisher’s record with Derrick Henry would be better than vrabel. Let’s all be honest the Addams family has, and will always be the downfall of the Titans.
Fisher built the Super Bowl winning rams. Was fired pre season. His team steamrolled the league 😊

  11. FISHER DIDNT WANT YOUNG ANF RUINED HIM FROM DAY ONE… HE WAS AN USC GUY… FISHER DID ALL HE COULD TO RUIN VINCE TO GET ANYONE ELSE INSTEAD OF JUST ADJUSTING TO VINCE TALENT

  12. That’s exactly why Fisher isn’t in the league. What a clown show of a coach. One of the worst coaches ever.

  13. A very very critical fact was left out of this story.

Kevin Mawa, an all pro center for the titans stated this.

Over the years it was difficult to play with Vince Young as he never studied, never put in the work or film study to run the offense effectively.
Mawae also stated that Vince would often ask him what the play was and Mawae would explain it to him during the game (in the huddle).

The last year Young played Mawae stated he wouldnt even tell him anymore and literally watch Young just wing it hence the awful season.
Now all the coaches knew this and even the voice of reason Tony Dungy stated "Time to part ways, He (Vince) is a 9-5 QB who is last to the meetings and the first out the door. He has been coddled too much, and Fisher and his staff have given him far too many chances."

I as a fan was very disappointed in Young. He had the potential to be something special. I was so excited when they drafted him only to watch this bad story play out before my eyes.

  14. Houston messed up bad and probably could have saved Vince young career who did he have….David Carr…..Matt shaub pppppfffff give me Vince young with Andre Johnson and Mario Williams on the over side pppfffff Houston football will always a problem

  15. Getting mad at the team for not waiting for you when you’re late instead of getting mad at you for being late is certainly a choice.

  16. I’m guessing it’s a few things. Vince didn’t put in the work and was a shade above Jamarcus Russell, he was mentally soft and Fisher didn’t like him in the first place so he sabotaged him.

  17. idk why you didn't mention that kerry collins led tennessee to a 13-3 record in 2008 and made the pro bowl… vince didn't desrve to start over him that year at all

  18. Love Jeff Fisher when he started as coach in the late 90s but got too comfy (and in his ways) at the end and that how you lose your job…
