TRADE RUMORS SURROUNDING NIC DOWD AND ANTHONY MANTHA HEAT UP. WHEN WILL THE CAPITALS MOVE THEM?

In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about if the Washington Capitals are real contenders for the playoffs this year. Inconsistent play and the inability to string together any type of winning streak really draws their sustainability into question. Later Dan talks about how the trade talks surrounding Nic Dowd and Anthony Mantha is intensifying. Last summer the Caps couldn’t get rid of Mantha if they tried and now there’s several teams interested in Mantha’s services even if it’s just as a rental. Later Dan talks about the teams interested in Nic Dowd. One of the teams that’s making a real push is the Edmonton Oilers. Would Nic be a good fit there?

  1. All I know is that Detroit game seals it for me. We need to sell especially with an extremely tough schedule coming.

  2. I've been a fan of this team since 1975 the problem is ownership and what I mean is this ownership doesn't know when to do a complete rebuild look how long it took them to finally realize the wizards never win a championship until they do a complete rebuild the same thing when we thought we can win a cup with jaromir jagr after that debacle it took a complete rebuild to get a player like a Ovi Backstorm, Carlson. In a few years from now he's going to have a new arena to fill seats with that's not going to happen with a losing franchise.

  3. It's a really good analysis comparing the Nationals rebuild to this team. It's hard to say what changes need to happen but like you said, if we move players let's make sure we get something in return. I would probably be more interested in seeing younger players develop but trading away veterans like you said, could also disastrous.

  4. Barring a miracle, they're sellers. I'd like to see them keep Mantha but I honestly don't see that happening. When he's on, he's impressive and I think he would work very well with kids they have in their system, but I'm not sure that's enough to keep him. They let things slide and find themselves about where the Caps were in the late 70s/early 80s, before they ever made the playoffs.

  5. Dan you need remember what Caps were early years 70's. I am #1 fan since day 1 in 1974. few years is nothing. We almost lost Caps for Seattle. " Save Caps" I was there first row. George Micheal host it.

  6. I'm more than convinced by the last two games that they need to sell. Yeah sure they looked great against Ottawa and then turned around and barely kept up with the Red Wings. Ottawa is not even remotely near a top 16 team in the league, they're a bottom feeder last 10 in the league team this year and sure we absolutely walloped them but… Of course they did. Then against the red wings, with everyone's consensus best goalie in net the boys were gassed, they could barely score they couldn't keep up and they couldn't make crisp plays in the offensive zone. And the red wings are a wild card team. They are holding the spot the capitals should be shooting for and have for a while. I say sell, get draft picks and players under 28 and start checking out what you could get from a team by offering up your upcoming mid-late first round draft pick (as in a top 2 line forward with a scoring touch under 25 playing on a team that isn't making the dance)
