  1. Who is that goal scorer?!?!?!?! There is nobody out there! Are you going for someone out west? Because they come to the east and do not produce the same as they did playing mostly other less defensive western teams. Vatrono did nothing when he played for eastern teams. He is a -19! Now Anthony Duclair has done well in the east. That would be a good pick up as long as it's nothing more than DeAngelo or Cohglan. NO TO TARASANKO!!!!!!!! He hurt the Rangers last year. The Rangers made all the moves you "WE NEED A GOAL SCORER" fans wanted the Canes to make and it failed big time! It made them weak defensively and they lost in the first round. Vatrono is NOT a goal scorer. His numbers are not that great for a player in the west. AGAIN HE WILL NOT PRODUCE THE SAME IN THE EAST!!!!!!!!! The Goalies that are available will coast way to much. Nashville is not moving Saros when they are still in the playoff hunt. Stick with Kochetkov and Martin. See if you can move Raanta and or Freddie.
What I think the Canes need.- TOUGHNES!!!!!! The Canes scoring stops when they play teams with a pest, who hit hard constantly, and who have guys that will drop them in a heart beat. Basically a team that has a lot of grit and physicality. That is when they become THE CANDY CANES!!! They let Boston walk all over them with zero push back twice. They let the Bolts and Pat Maroon walk all over them with zero push back. They let the Rangers run their goalie over and over again until you had two injured goalies playing through injury with zero push back, and last year the Cats were able to bully them to a sweep with zero push back.
During the off season they got Bunting who is now comfortable with the Canes system and we are now seeing the pest side of him show more and more each game. They got Orlov who hits hard. He is now playing solid defensively and looks very comfortable and is finding offense. He has really picked up his physical play as well. They got Brandon Lemieux who has already shown he will protect his teammates. And he can bite…. I mean fight. LOL Lemieux was picked up just for the playoffs I'm convinced. I would not mind adding to the toughness of this team. I think you can get both with Duclair. I do not think you should mess with this D-Core before the playoffs!!! It is the BEST complete D-Core in the league. The playoffs are about defense. Ask the Leafs and the Oilers who have all the goal scorers but have weak team defense. Dri had 4 goals vs the Stars in one game and that is all the media was talking about. They failed to say that he was on the ice for EVERY goal against in that game as well. So what did he do?
Another player you can get that would not cost that much that comes an edge plus is a 200 ft player would be Matt Dumba. Yes many don't like him because he has that edge. Similar to Bunting.
Who do you take out of the line up? KK? NOPE! He is playing really good actually just not scoring. Necas? Are you stupid?!?!?!?!? Fast? YES!!!! I think it has gotten to a point where he is no longer really helping. I am still not 100% sold on Drury. Yes he has improved and on the defensive side he has been solid. I still would rather see Suzuki or Ponomarev. Both more dynamic players. Staal has been great on Faceoffs and forechecking but I feel he is taking up space of one of these two players that could be that "goal Scorer". They both play better in the NHL than they do in the AHL. Kinda like a smart kid in rgular classes at school. Like they are board. Suzuki should have gotten Drury's spot if it hadn't been for injury. Suzuki out performed Drury in pre-season. You can carry more players on your roster in the playoffs. With no AHL affiliate I would like to see the Canes bring both of them up for the playoffs just incase of injury or the team needing a spark. However RBA is a stay the course coach to a fault. Remember he left DeAngelo and Smith in the line up for the entire Ranger's series even though the fans owned DeAngelo's head space and Smith was just trash. The Canes had zero wins on the road that entire playoff run with ZERO changes to the lineup. That year was on Rod.
So in not so short, the Canes should NOT go all in at the deadline. If they could get Duclare or Dumba or both cheap go for it. No need to hurt the team long term on a gamble with honestly expensive slim pickings at this deadline.
