Datsyuk already gets a lot of respect.

  2. manwhostoletheworld

Seen as one of the most offensively gifted/creative minded forwards while also being continuously mentioned as the game’s top 1-3 defensive forwards for years

~~Me thinks jfresh used this title to garner clicks/replies saying exactly that~~

edit: my mistake jfresh, you were just pointing out a dominant season, it was OP who thinks Datsyuk is underrated. I apologize.

Not sure how old the tweet is, but McDavid should be 27 now. I think he has a January birthday. Although, I guess on a 3-year weighted average, his average age would be about 26.

Datsyuk is the most naturally talented player I’ve ever seen. He was always somehow celebrated and underrated simultaneously.

To be truthful, no matter your feelings on it, the public kind of willingly started to turn a shoulder on the guy after he made those orthodox religion comments back in 2013. I’d have to think this is a contributing factor towards why he’s kind of became a bit less celebrated in recent history.

I would love to hypothetically see what Fedorov’s 1993-94 card when he had second most points in the league (120) and won the Selke would be. Every category might’ve been in the hundredth percentile.

He’s such an underrated 200 foot player. Sacrificed offensively to put in more work on defence and ensure the team would win!!!

  7. physics_fighter

As a hawks fan, he was like Toews and Kane combined. That is how I always thought of him

  8. If you were paying attention during the Datsyuk/Zetterberg era you know Datsyuk got a lot of respect. If anything Z might have been a little underrated because Datsyuk was the Magician.

  9. JimmyPineapple_

Who doesn’t respect Datsyuk? I’ve only ever heard/seen high value opinions of him. He was amazing.

  10. He is a little underrated, he would have been the first player to refuse to wear a pride warm up jersey. He doesn’t get the credit he deserves for that. He played in the wrong era.

  11. bellerinho

I’ve never seen anyone disrespect or slander Datsyuk, I feel like he is correctly rated as one of the best and most entertaining players during his playing career

  12. DarkAgeMonks

Did this whole sub start watching hockey 2 years ago?

  13. Who is walking around disrespecting Datsyuk? Don’t make up controversies where there are none, there’s enough of that in the world as is.

  14. BlueBeagle8

If anything Datsyuk is overrated by people who mythologize his career now that he’s retired.

No shade on the guy, he was incredible and probably one of the 30 or 40 best players in the history of the sport.

But some fans talk about him like he was an unstoppable force, which just wasn’t the case. He was closer to Patrice Bergeron than Mario Lemieux.

  15. notagain40

I feel like most people agree that Datsyuk is one of the greatest two way forwards of all time.

Where are these people who aren’t showing him the respect he deserves?

  16. Mr_FortySeven

Dats was properly rated back in his prime. He was almost always in the conversation for best players in the league and was winning awards for his defensive play while putting up nearly 100 points a season for a while.

  17. SEND_ME_SPIDERMAN

datsyuk was all anyone ever talked about back when he played. not sure he needs more respect lol

  18. spartacat_12

Datsyuk won 3 Selke Trophies, and was a Hart finalist. Most of the other players from his era referred to him as the best player they played against. He has plenty of respect

  19. dragriver2

What is this take lol. Any hockey video on early YouTube was infested with people calling Datsyuk the best player on earth. He totally was in mvp talks

  20. CanadianEhhhhhhh

more respect? He’s one of the greatest players of all time and anyone you ask would tell you the same

  21. CalgaryCheekClapper

Datsyuk is actually the better player for various reasons

    1. Stanley Cup champ and finalist

    2. Wasnt carried by elite goaltenders such as Mike Smith and Jack Campbell

    3. Lived in Detroit while playing in the Western Conference, many of his games starting at 9pm or later local time

    4. Had to learn a new language coming to North America (shows resilience, grit)

    5. More balanced output, scored against all teams including the Thrashers

    6. Never had a 100 point teammate (mcfraud has had several)

    7. Lived through the dissolution of his countries government and way of life (more resilience)

    8. Won despite having Mike Babcock

    9. Never had a teammate score 4 goals, mcdavid has had 3 do this

    10. Wasnt carried by generational defensemen such as Darnell Nurse and Brett Kulak

Lets face it folks, datsyuk has overcome far more than Canadian trust fund baby Mcdavid

  22. Datsyuk ain’t underrated at all. There’s countless Datsyuk highlight reels on YouTube with millions of views, asking Siri who “the magic man” is will bring you to datsyuk’s Wikipedia page, he has a move named after him…

  23. Motor_Signal_413

Oh my God can we stop with the Datsyuk is underrated/ no respected enough talk already…

He’s one of the all time hockey minds and is pretty damn near universally respected

  24. FragrantHockeyFan

Datsyuk is overrated af, yeah he was good but people act like he’s one of the greatest of all time. It’s just tiring listening to people jerk him off all time time

When discussing the “greatest ever” in hockey, a few names come to mind: Gretzky, Brodeur, and even Connor McDavid, but one that many seem to forget is Pavel Datsyuk, who is the best of all of them.

Firstly, Datsyuk is certainly better defensively than all others in the “goat” conversation, as can easily be shown by his 3 selke trophies. Now one might say that there are players like Bergeron who have more selke trophies, however, it’s important to realize that Datsyuk played far less games than Bergeron, and in a much tougher era, it’s almost certain that, had he played any longer, Datsyuk would have achieved 4, 5, maybe even 6 selke trophies, because everyone who watched him knew he was always the best player on the ice.

Secondly, Pavel Datsyuk’s offense, despite what others say, is far better than Gretzky, McDavid, or anyone else to ever lace up the skates. Sure, he may have less points than lots of other players, and sure, he may have been sub point per game throughout his career, but Datsyuk’s ability to get the puck into the zone, and keep it there with his unmatched stick handling ability meant that even though he didn’t run up the score, he always did the right thing to put his team in a position to win.

Lastly, unlike other players, Datsyuk’s team needed him. Gretzky was good, but his team won the cup once they traded him, and he never won a cup again without his stacked roster, McDavid is ok, but he has continued to be exposed in the playoffs time after time. Datsyuk on the other hand was so vital to his team’s success, that they made the playoffs every year that he was on the team, and the second he left, they missed it.

In conclusion, though you may not be willing to admit it, Datsyuk is probably the best player in hockey history, and if you need any more convincing, I have a whole playlist of YouTube videos to show you…
