What Should the Oilers do with Connor Brown?

In today’s video I discuss Connor Brown’s performance thus far into the season, and analyze what the team looks like when he’s on the ice with certain linemates compared to when he’s off the ice. Make sure to let me know your thoughts in the comments!

  1. We just need to pull off some kind of goalie deal without gutting the team. I don't know how we can pull it off though. McDavid, Draisaitl, Nuge, Hyman, and Bouchard are the non-negotiables. We'll never get a fair trade for them with how good their contracts are. Nurse is hard to move with his contract and our defense would be decimated without him. The only players I think we could get value for are the third line and kane, but Kane's contract is already so small that it barely helps. I don't think we can win a cup with out goaltending, but I also don't know how we can pull anything off.

The only thing I can think of is dumping brown and campbell onto the sharks for blackwood and throwing a mountain of picks at them. We've screwed ourselves so bad that we basically have to trade our entire future away to fix this issue.

  2. He's done sweet F A!! Too many passengers on this roster, too many guys who only play well when others do. They need to gut the defense starting with nurse, keep Ekholm and Bouchard, get rid of the rest, they need consistency.

  3. Reminds me of the typical Ken Holland's protype of player fast skater with no puck luck. Anthony Athaniasiou 2.0 or to some extent Ryan McCleod or Warren Foegle. Montreal has stuck by Josh Anderson during his scoreless drought & it looks like it might be he is starting to regain his confidence & scoring touch. It's too late now to cut Brown without it costing the team more in terms of cap management so we are stuck until he makes a breakthrough or by some miracle a trade happens or the off season. Yet Bob Stauffer & John Shannon continue to defend Ken Holland & his head scratching moves. 😢

  4. Jeff Jackson can somehow negotiate Brown's spectacular multi million dollar miracle deal, yet Jackson can't seem to pull off the same kind of miracle to get rid of Campbell's contract, get a legit #1 goalie and or add a top pairing D by not giving all our picks and assets away. I guess other GMs around the league aren't as gullible as Holland. I'm also guessing the jig is up with the famous Jeff Jackson 10 game attendance switch-aroo clause..lol..nope, not gonna work with other GMs around the league. Holland's one tough negotiator. Lol

  5. He’s good defensively and on a third line role, but he can’t play 3rd line cause they are doing well, and brown is being payed to play top line with McDavid, yet he has one singular point and it’s not a goal…

  6. You made some good points & your observation on how Holloway also fits into this equation. I think if the Oilers were paying attention to the advanced stats like you just presented they would be hard pressed not to try a Draisaityl, Brown & Holloway line. Besides the fact those two guys have the speed that Leon doesn't have, they can possibly improve upon Leon's effectiveness in gaining the offensive zone setting him up for his one timer & make up for his deficiency in the back checking & defensive zone coverage. Just expanding on your idea.

  7. Is it necessary to do a breakdown on a guy with 1 point? Of course there is low numbers…

  8. What I'm curious about is the TOI and how much TOI is enough to draw a conclusion bad or good. It seems to me that not even a full 60 mins of game time is tough to sample. Not sure, just getting into the hockey advanced analytics
