Its a lot I agree!! Honestly a solid goalie would help so much!! This team would look totally different with steady goaltending.
Thtat's way too much. Gibson makes $6.4 million for 3 more years after this one. And he's not a huge upgrade.
I've been extremely favorable of the Gibson idea. No f'n way if it's something i fear like Casey, Foote AND a 1st. No way, let it ride,roll the dice with Daws if shit goes down hill. Can't sacrifice the next half a decade for 1 year run when we're it's already not going as well as hoped…
I like Schmid long-term, and even more so if he can be mentored by someone like Gibson for a season or two.
Hard pass on Gibson for me. He’s on the wrong side of 30 and has too many years/too high of a cap hit on his contract.
He’s a good goalie stuck on a bad team…and in theory, he would do well on a better team. But my fear is he’d arrive in NJ and be nothing but mediocre. It’s not like the Devils have a super strong D-corps. That’s not a knock on our D, I am super optimistic about defense. But they’re young and inexperienced and suffer from some growing pains as a result. Gibson could very well end up looking nothing but average here.
I’d have taken Gibson 2-3 years ago, but his age and contract scare me.
Stupid move. We need our prospects and it will only create more holes that will have to be fixed later making a rash move like this. If fitz wants to make a move like this then go for Saros. Better to send Vitek down and bring up Daws
Honestly I think the goaltending is good it's not the greatest but if we had a better strategy and game planning with the defense I think it would be easier. Remember shots on goals are not made by goaltending it's made by poor defense. Like look at the Boston game yes the goaltender made great saves but the defense allowed so many shots. So we have to do better I think with defense not goaltending.

Idk..Its crazy because the thing everyone says is the only thing holding this team back is just having a steady goalie but it seems its the one thing we keep avoiding to get..i think fitz should stand pat and wait it out a little tho

Gibson won't solve the Devils defensive woes. he might be slightly better than what we have, but I do not think the cost would be worth it
If they do trade for a goalie, I would rather see it later in the season. Could we not give Daws a chance?

Honestly i would love to see what daws could do. Even if we traded say schmid and a pick for gibson it gives up solid goaltending with daws as another guya to build up. Just my opinion
price is way too steep. do not trade seamus at all.
My opinion is that they shouldn't look for Gibson. Our defense has to block more shots, be better positioned to take shooting lanes away. The Devils need to invest more into Schmid, because i think he's the future not like Brodeur but good enough to go for a Cup with more confidence and experience. Lets Go Devils!!!
Gibson is not a fantastic goalie. He's a veteran who plays well with a solid D in front of him. He's unimpressive with a porous D in front of him. I think he will get traded because he's "good" with 10+ years NHL experience experience and his team needs lots of new blood. WIth 1/3 of the season complete, we are 4 points away from a 3 way tie for 2nd place in the division. Anything can still happen – especially as our youthful D play more without their training wheels. Vanecek looked great against Boston. I cringed every time Severson touched the puck because someone could make a highlight reel of goals against that were directly because of an error on his part… but despite the defensive liabilities, he knew the NJ system like the back of his hand after 9 years with the team and he was sometimes a shut down guy. With him gone, Hamilton hurt, and all the young D in, even with one of the top offenses in the league, we might have to pay the price of not making the playoffs. I think they are sacrificing Schmid's progression because VV was a work-horse for us las year and if we loose too many games now, it could be hard to catch up. I'd like to see Schmid and Vanecec alternate but Gibson is not the missing link that will make us great. The price tag is also ridiculous for an old guy who averaged around 3 GAA for the last 7 seasons.
I think we need to see if Vitek can keep up his recent better play and if our defense can continue to step it up first.
I'd prefer seeing a a trade like gibson w/ 50% retained for vanacek, gritsyuk and a 1st
Avoid! It is either Saros or Varlamov. If not than stay vith VV ans AS till the end of the season.

I'm honestly not interested. Sure, Gibson has played with bad teams over the years, but we've seen good goalies perform well on bad teams before (Corey Schneider for ex lol). Gibson hasn't had a good season since 2019. Is he even the same player anymore? Definitely a big risk IMO
Not sure why NJ would go after Gibson. Average goalie at best that hit his peak years ago. Playoff stats are meh. Not seeing the upgrade here. Hellebuyck is the goalie to go after.

No a chance, fitzgerald needs to go out and get us a true defenseman. I have complete faith in vanecek becoming a very solid goalie if we improve our blue line. No need to give up so much for Gibson when we should be focusing on defense

That’s a steep price especially if there’s no salary retention that’s a no go. Know he’s having a down year, but if they’re looking for someone to have that true veteran presence back there, try a swap with Minnesota for Fleury? Guy knows what it takes to win and can mentor Schmid
I know we're all talking about Goalie, but Nemec only has 3 games left before he burns yr 1 of his ELC. I'll be curious to see if Fitz does anything before 12/21 against the Oilers (game 10)… Maybe those talks with Anaheim include RD Lyubushkin if he's set on saving Nemec's next contract to be a year after Luke's. Personally, Nemec has been great so as a fan I want to see him stay up, but I'll understand if a move is made and he's sent back down
Gibson has had 4 mediocre seasons in a row. Fitz is WAY too smart to give up that much for him.
