Entering the offseason the Sabres needed a starting goalie, a top 4 defenseman, and to add more toughness to the lineup. Opening night the Sabres needed a starting goalie, a top 4 defenseman, and more toughness in the lineup. So yeah, Adams did nothing to improve the team over the offseason and the result is that the team didn’t improve. Pretty predictable results

I actually don’t think they are that soft watching other teams play. Some of their star players fight or give big hits. Other guys play really hard.
I also don’t think it matters much in 2023.

How many goals does a “response” or “swagger” get you per game?
We are 29th in the league in shots on goal and 29th in the league in dangerous shots on goal. How does pointlessly hugging a guy and taking a penalty help us fix that? Because that’s why were’ not winning games.
