They’re 2-0-1 without their number 2 center, elite number 1 defenseman, and most importantly elite number 1 goalie. In the past years the narrative around the team (which was absolutely warranted to a certain extent) was that Igor carried the team to success. Winning without him is a huge indicator that the team has improved significantly.
I’ll gladly eat crow on the laviolette hire. They’ve looked completely different from a gameplan perspective. They still have 5v5 and depth scoring issues, but in previous years if PP1 wasn’t scoring they NEEDED Igor to win the game for them. This season looks different. They’re responsible enough defensively that they can have an off night on the scoreboard and still out shoot the opponent and win 3-1.
