  1. @RobTalksHockey Great video Rob, one thing had me wondering though at 9:08 someone says ā€œstop smashing my guyā€ to Perron after he hit Walman with the puck but it looked a little tense I was just curious if you had any insight.

  2. The rumor was his wife wouldn’t move to Tampa and Ken Holland moved into another role so Stevie could come back. That lasted less than a week before Edmonton hired him.

  3. A whole lot of pointless filler to get the video over 10 minutes and increase that monetization, huh bud?

  4. Well their two best players are hometown americans from Michigan. When has that ever happened? They both lead the league in scoring through 6 games. Michigan boys.

  5. When I see yzerplan it makes me laugh. Detroit development and scouting system is the best. He’s just reproducing what he learned playing for the team. Detroit is extremely successful at developing the talent of young player, find it amongst later rounds players and keeping these developed players in the organisation. Just have a look at Detroit legends with the exception of Howe and Delvecchio who were undrafted but remained in Detroit their whole career (forget the last year as a Whaler for Howe). Lidstrom (53th), Zetterberg (210th), Fedorov (74th), Datsyuk (171th), Yzerman (4th). Not even a first draft pick… it’s crazy. Now look at some of his picks as a gm in tempa. Yzerman picked Nikita Kucherov in the second round of the 2011 Draft. He took Ondrej Palat in the seventh the same year. Yzerman snagged Brayden Point and Anthony Cirelli in the third round in 2014 and '15, respectively.

Everything is connected. Detroit Red Wings are in good hands and closer to a cup than most of the teams in the same conference who picked first rounders years after years.

  6. I'd say Yzerman has been amazing so far, given the team he's inherited and the absolute impossibility of Detroit EVER breaking into a lottery pick despite having their worst seasons in history. So much that he's given up on hoping for a lottery pick right away.

  7. Doubt Steve Yzerman? Ummm no. I’m 45 years old now been a fan my entire life. Success when he played and in the office, never doubting.

  8. Look at their start this season.
They'll win the cup before the leafs do!
    Bank it.

  9. It’s hard to believe the wings can keep this pace but rn they are top 4 in the NHL within the first 5 games and if they make the playoffs I’ll be ecstatic because this team needs to get out of the basement and stop getting top 8 picks

  10. You’re wrong about 0 goalies from 2005 cuz price was taken fifth and that’s within the top ten

  11. Rob , I sure hope so . I used to watch games in the Olympia . Always been a wings fan , I lived in Windsor Ontario which is due south of detroit . Back in the day we could get to america and sneak in pretty easily , being Canadian rinkrats who grew up at every game of the spitfires and my dad who worked there . Anyways I’m here in Vancouver now pretty disheartened about hockey last season , but we always wanted detroit to win over Toronto because anything east of Toronto is irrelevant to the center of the universe which is what those in hog town think . So go wings . I can’t have Toronto winning the cup then the Canucks would be next up I believe for longest cup drought

  12. I think out of all the guys Yzerman has drafted so far since coming to the Wings, Cossa is the one that really needs to step it up. I know goalies take longer to develop, and he's still young, but as it stands, he's barely a solid ECHL goalie. He was terrible in both the prospects tourney and preseason leading into this year, and just watching him play shows he's struggling with his confidence. If he can get his head right, i think he'll be fine, otherwise they may have just picked another Mrazek, but worse.

  13. I dunno, I believe in Yzerman and the direction of my Wings, but our identity is sticking to guys whose last names end in -OV, I want to hear strong accents from players that are amused at the American way of thinking, playing, and life

  14. Yzerman's got results in every role he has accepted because he is patient, pragmatic and professional. There's a handful (maybe) of former players that everyone respects. He is one them and for good reason.

  15. Anyone who questions doesn’t understand how to build a team. You don’t want to win right away, you want to get draft picks to get long term talent. Too many people don’t understand that.

  16. Steve was drafted in early 80s and Detroit won cups in late 90s-early 2000s….it takes time. Not every pick pans out. Along the way you add the pieces. They added another piece in Debrincat. They’ll add another defenseman, goalie and go on a deep playoff run.

  17. To add onto the goalie situation, they drafted Trey Augustine who’s a beast and I think will be great in the future

  18. Also, what you failed to mention about the Yzerplan, is his eye to building the minor league. I think that was a huge key as to why Tampa was consistently good year over year. Now I can’t speak to the Wings farm team as I’m a lightning season ticket holder, but there was always a success story coming up thru the farm system. Year over year. Trust the Yzerplan!!

  19. Steve is a very intelligent guy and I believe that the Red Wings are headed into the right direction, but it will take patience from the fans.

  20. To doubt Yzerman is foolish….
He chose the perfect time to bring in a high pricer big scorer and happen to be a native of the Detroit area.
It's early but winning 5 straight cake walks followed by a 3 goal third for a point last night
Is looking real good and they look like a playoff team.
And plenty of talent ready to get the Wings for s cup run in a couple years.
If you think about it, Yzerman has the team out of the shithole and in a place where he is more comfortable to do his best work
