It seems like anything Connor Bedard does right now is the NHL equivalent to Taylor Swift going to an NFL game. So when he reacted to someone in the Chicago Blackhawks locker room stepping on the logo on the floor negatively, of course, it now is talked about everywhere. Including this show.
NHL players have a lot of superstitions. Which ones do we understand, and which ones just go too far?
We also received a listener question about former players becoming head coaches or GMs. How do we feel about it?
Finally, it’s Ross Colton’s turn for a season preview. A fan favorite in the making??

How is the not touching the trophy still a thing? like the last 5 champs have touched it lol
I think there’s a huge difference between playing a game on a surface that happens to have a team logo and intentionally stopping and digging your feet in it hours before or after a game.
I don’t think it’s a superstitious thing as much as it is just a respect for your team thing. I agree placing it on the ceiling makes more sense but, if there is a logo on the ground, I don’t think it’s a big ask to ask people to stay off it.
Im definitely not stepping on the logo 😂
McGahey is so funny. He made so many comments about being "four miles away" and "at the International Space Station." I guess the box is very far from the ice, indeed 😅 One thing he said really struck me: Ryan Johansen has never had a faceoff win percent of less than 50% in his career. I'll take "Things Avs Management Definitely Noted About This Guy Before Pursuing Him" for $800, Alex.
Superstitions are part of any endeavor where luck plays a part. It's mostly harmless. I'll say that everyone looking nervous at the trophy presentation in Edmonton, and Joe Sakic finally telling Gabe "just touch it!" made me smile.
Agree completely about the coaching. While some may have that talent, we see it all the time in the business world: the technical staff with experience and knowledge is promoted to manager. But managing is a completely different job, and not everyone's cut out for it. One should have to work up from smaller responsibilities, like skills coach or assistant, before making them the "division director" or you're setting them up for failure, most of the time.
What happened last night was a five-minute major by Clurman with time winding down that resulted in a Dallas goal and him packing his bags for Loveland, I'm guessing.
Nobody but you two nuts, behind those mics, please and thank you.
So many new names this year, I honestly can't wait to see what everyone can do and what lineups we get!
Guys, you are being too literal. The idea is, this isn't the trophy we want. It's the next one. Don't be complacent with the ribbon you are getting, it's not the end goal. The logo thing is respect, self respect and team building. You take care of something that matters. You have pride in what you have built.
As an Avs diehard in Chicagoland, I'm already tired of rolling my eyes. Getting nudged by people who haven't cared about hockey the last 6 years here and all the local sports clip every time Bedard farts. Now it's this clip of the logo on the floor constantly going around. A random, slipup that likely happens every single day becomes league wide news because their new babyface took issue with it. Just bring on the regular season already.
