As an Oiler fan, I can confidently say that the Oilers have zero chance of competing for a cup by showing out the way they did against Vancouver. People can argue that this is only the first game of the season, but man, c'mon. They played with no urgency, aggressiveness, discipline or grit. Such a bizarre game, it was like everybody was there, but their minds were elsewhere. The biggest problem with the Oilers is their lack of heart, and that unfortunately, isn't as easy to fix just by watching film. It's a behavioral pattern that they need to address ASAP. The talent is obviously here, no denying that.
I dont really care if its the first game lmfao cup contenders dont lose that way. Embarrassing the leaders of this team needs a change. Why did they do a captain skate 2 weeks before training camp to be ready for the season? It obviously did nothing.
Everyone could see this coming with your new system Jay. And on top of that you're stifling the games most talented dynamic player and his skill set. Trying to fix what wasnt broken, they had the 3rd best goal differential in the league last year. Not to mention the injuries that will happen because of this system with all the shot blocking (Holloway) Last night wasnt a coincidence.
If Jay is always going to give cryptic, no answers then why even hold a press conference. I think he could be more specific with details without giving away is game plan. Be straight forward and honest. Call out the players that didn't perform. Stop all of this…"the things we need to do didn't happen, we aren't happy and we are going to work on it." That is a garbage no answer. He talks like everything he does and talks about is top secret. News flash Jay, its just hockey. Jay's plan has been implemented for a few years now with mostly the same group and the same failures keep appearing. So may Jay its you and not the players that is the issue.
Oilers are Cocky and think they will school teams or play as if they are playin a high school squad but then get a slap in the face and reminder most teams wanna school the Oilers!
