It's risky for sure, but I respect Ottawa committing to their really young core with all these deals. They could be a cap-savvy powerhouse for years to come
15th overall? Time for bed 😉
Anyone saying this is an overpay has just blatantly not seen Sanderson play hockey. Kid is poised, calm, disciplined, smart as hell, a great skater and was the Sens' best defensive D last year by a country mile, while still having elite offensive IQ and managing to contribute 32 points as a rookie D who was mostly chewing up penalty kill and difficult defensive minutes. If he progresses well over the next couple of seasons (which frankly he is likely to) I can see him growing into a Jaccub Slavin-type with even better skating, this is a great signing
Stutzle, Tkachuk, Norris, Chabot and Sanderson all locked up long term on team friendly deals. The leafs should take notes….
Should’ve bridged him
Insane.
Majority of you are so naive to think that this is a good signing. I thought the Blues signing Robert Thomas to a 8 year deal was bad, but this takes the cake. This is one of the most overreactive knee jerk move from a FO that I have ever seen in a long time in the NHL. I thought Ottawa would have more sense with new ownership, but apparently you can't buy out stupidity. This is the same organization who gave Karlsson a ridiculous contract of $6.5M AAV for 7 years in 2013. This kid does not deserve Makar level money. Give it less than 2 years for the Sens fanbase to be pissed over the contract
SANDERSON 5th
Admit it, you said he was drafted 15th overall to get the comments flooded to help the Youtube algorithm.
One thing that tends to be overlooked with these long term deals is that there isn't as much risk when the player is this young. If a worst case scenario happens, and he turns into the next Jared Cowen, he can be bought out at a cap hit of less than $1.4M per year till '28.
Never heard of him….
I like the hockey guy.
I'm a Sens fan hoping for the best but after Noris' terrible deal, I,m not sure about this one. Like you said, we only saw one year out of him
Even though he was picked at 5th overall he still was a steal
As a Toronto fan, nothing better than a battle of Ontario being competitive, and Sens fans finally having quality hockey to cheer for, great for the region, great for the league.
Id be very weary of ottawa and buffalo. It would not surprise me if they upset the atlantic in a major way. I can see them in the top 3 with Toronto easily.
Super happy with this deal people who dont watch the Sens will say its a bad deal but just like Brady, Timmy, and Batherson Im sure Jake Sanderson will prove them wrong like you said pts arent everything for Sanderson his defensive game is already better than his offensive game which is crazy for a rookie
Love this contract for Ottawa but I am midly concerned with him only having one year under hist belt. However, even with a potential softmore slump I think he will 100% live up to this contract
Massive overpay and makes Ottawa look so desperate.
I kind of like how Ottawa's doing this. Pay your core all in the same area, makes it feel like they're all in this together
sens just need to get decent goaltending and their golden
"I can't remember the last time a player clearly wanted out of ottawa" is this sarcasm or are u high?
$8m/y for a 21 year old 30 point guy?????
But…but….Brady Tkachuk isn't going to re-sign in Ottawa! He's going to leave, to go play with his brother in Florida!
Finally, a video that can answer all my burning questions about this trade.
Namely — "who?"
He was 5th pick not 15
He’s gonna be a stud but I’m ngl I wasn’t expecting an 8×8 deal for Sanderson. Dorian’s got some balls let’s just say that
#5 pick overall in 2020.
You have to have the kid evaluated correctly for this to work. Hopefully they have done that. Pietrangelo after winning a cup got $8.8 million for 8 years.
Sanderson played a big role on a defense that wasnt that good. But he is only 21.
I still think the defense could use another veteran mid pair guy.
You cant remember a player who wanted out of Ottawa? I have one (meow)
Thought he was drafted top 5!
Dorian's professional life must be so much easier now!
The Sabres locked up Cozens and Thompson early and now those deals look like steals! I wish they had done the same with Dahlin.
Sanderson was 5th overall pick
Cant remember last time someone wanted out of ottawa…cough cough Debrincat???
I can't wait to come back to this video in a few years for this contract to have aged beautifully.
All the people saying "bUt hE HaS 4 gOaLs" need to stop stat-watching and actually watch the games he plays. Kid is rock-solid and his deal will be a steal just like Stutzle's
As Steve Dangle says, okay, you really needed that .05 right? makes a big difference to you! oh, prevents us from potentially filling up a roster lol
Still Pinto not signes yet, i am curious how they will deal with this
Holy piss…
No more excuses from this team, they got paid and maybe too soon seeing how as a team they havent accomplished anything. Its time to improve and make the playoffs
