The league is so behind the times they’re missing out on just hosting the product themselves through a streaming service

Who remembers the glorious ad-free boards of the Vancouver olympics?

NHL is so bush league. I read yesterday that WNBA ratings are starting to eclipse them.

Ill take NHL.TV over this shit ESPN+. Their UI is trash. How about not putting overtime spoilers in games on demand first. How about put the game first and make so i can scroll to the right to see spoilers if i want.

Every sport except the NFL has blackouts. NBA,MLB, you’re local market games are blacked out from the league passes just like NHL on ESPN+. All require something that carries cable networks like ESPN or TNT/TBS/FS1 to watch all playoff games

I don’t have cable and I would happily buy the center ice package or whatever to be stream every NHL game…

But I live in Pittsburgh and the Penguins games are blacked out. Those are the games I obviously want to watch the most.

So I don’t. And instead just watch an “illegal” stream.

It’s whatever. When the NHL gets their shit together then I’ll give them money.

    Top panel: owners spend money

    Bottom panel: owners make money

    Is this really a mystery?

I guess I’ll keep watching game highlights the next day.

If you’re not in North America you have literally no access to all games. I’m lucky if I get 10 games shown live per month

  10. I will never get over Stan Kroenke and his inability to get a deal done with tv. The poor tv providers and entrepreneur who owns 9 pro teams, the humanity, however will they eat. I totally forgive local blackouts of the Avs and Nuggets during championship years, and I’m sure being able to watch in Colorado during that time would have netted less profit from increased interest

  11. gordonbombae2

They can’t because of the deal they have with rogers to broadcast which netted the NHL 5.2 billion. That’s why they do it..

None of these reasons are why hockey’s not popular!

Yet, hockey fans are really too insecure to really talk about it.

I just want the leafs to change their goal / victory song . Is that too much to ask?

How does Gary Bettman so secure in his role? Sure, overall league revenues have risen on his watch, but how does that compare with the other 3 big team sports in the same period? If he’s not gaining market share, hockey is losing.
