Thanks Lucic. I know he was answering a question but he put that out there, and somehow we are worse than Jets (much love Winnipeg đ). I think comments like Lucic’s really change perceptions. Even if he was to say, hey it’s a great city and one of the best in Canada. But he’s like, it’s cold, small, doesn’t have mlb nba team, and not much to do, shows his true feelings even though he was “just answering a question”. He’s not all to blame but he’s was part of the problem and probably communicated like that behind close doors. Lucic stan’s don’t come for me, just my opinion

How are the Coyotes not number one? They don’t even have a damn rink!
LionManMan
Arbitrary list thrown together.

It’s funny because with all this negativity right now, we’ll probably make the playoffs this season, go on a run, and everyone will be like “oh Calgary is so awesome!!” I’m calling it at this point.

Good, we donât need FAs right now. We need prospects and to grow a new core internally.

I donât blame anyone for being mad, but be mad because Looch was right. This city is great, until itâs not.
He canât ski, snowmobile or any of the fun winter things. Once youâve exhausted all the fun summer things whatâs next?
Calgary is enormous and full of almost nothing. I mean look at the state of any infrastructure here. It was most likely built in the 80s and hasnât been touched since.

Completely arbitrary list by someone that never actually spoke to any players.

Never thought I’d see the day that Carolina wasn’t on a list like this. Thank you, Tom Dundon.

How is Lucic to blame?
After COVID, the housing prices and record inflation decimated the economy where little Calgarians had disposable income, leading to the entertainment industry struggling and therefore leaving little for NHLers to do in their spare time.
IMO, us Albertans have ourselves to blame for squandering “the Advantage” for so many decades.

Based on whose perception of these things? The number of completely amateur hockey âwritersâ that throw this shit together everyday is baffling. Do something meaningful with your life.

What a weird list. Arizona shouldn’t be there like at all. They will probably get a new arena at some point, they have a boat load of talent already in there and more coming and I’ve heard that it’s a very diserable place to live (not for a person like me who loves winter).
I think maybe Vancouver shouldn’t be there either, but if they must, the last place is alright. Calgary does belong here, but definitely shouldn’t be the number #1. Now where is Edmonton? They have Connor and Leon for now, but their prospect pool is non existent, therefore the future is also kind of an question mark and I’m not even going to start with the city itself

One thing to remember, is that people whose opinions matter here are not normal. If you graduated highschool with decent grades, you’re probably more educated than your average NHLer. And, even the lowest paid NHL regular makes a salary that would put most CEOs to shame. Or to put it bluntly, in a lot of cases, they’ve got more money than brains. They’re going to prefer to put that money where people of that sort generally tend to:
> I spend a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.

Calgary isn’t exactly top of the pile for that sort of lifestyle. We have a great city. We all know that and we have the international cred to go with it. But NHLers don’t give a crap about affordability, job security, public safety, traffic congestion and natural beauty. They can afford that no matter where they choose to live. Frankly, prostitutes per square kilometer is more likely to be an indication that a city has what players are after.
In players defence, I think a lot of “normal people” would act similarly if they had the financial resources that players can bring to bear. People don’t tend to be loyal to the places they’re from or remain known for their modesty when the world becomes their oyster.

What crap is this from the hockey writers? Is the author an Oilers Fan?
