Leafs Ice Chips: What happened to Tavares’ 5-on-5 offence?

Maple Leafs forward John Tavares is looking to get back on track on even strength after just one 5-on-5 goal in 14 games since the start of March, but head coach Sheldon Keefe was quick to point out that the captain is doing a lot of other things for the team to ensure they win games. 1. I was a good forward when I played MJ, I was also one of our stronger defensive forwards. If I had two line-mates that were better at generating offense I would 100% change my focus when on the ice to be even more responsible defensively knowing I was most likely that best option. It also gave them more freedom to be creative in the offensive zone knowing I'm covering that side of the puck. It is pretty normal I think for those roles on higher level teams … this is def something JT would do and it would be reflected in his stats on both sides of the puck.
