It’s sad that I can see myself spending the rest of my life without ever seeing this team win another Stanley Cup
And to this day I’m still looking for one of those white sweaters that some of the Coaches/Staff are wearing.
I feel like I was on that team
That was an amazing team – just so strong at every position. Being a Flames fan in the mid-to-late 80s was a treat. The rivalry with Edmonton had led to Calgary developing great teams to compete, and with era’s fire-wagon style of hockey, it never really felt like the Flames were out of a game. Sometimes they’d be down 3-1 heading into the third period, and I wouldn’t be worried because of the sheer firepower of the team – they’d score a bunch and wind up winning 6-4 or something.
Mullen, Loob, MacInnis, Gilmour, Nieuwendyk, Otto, McDonald, Vernon, and more. They’ll always be legends.
Between Edmonton, Calgary and Montreal we had some amazing Canadian teams in the late 80s and early 90s. Was an awesome time to be growing up and playing hockey. I miss it, a lot.
The only team, other than the Habs, to hoist the cup in the Montreal forum. Legends.
Edit: And got a standing “O” from Montreal, the game was that good. Classy city, Montreal.
Bearcat!
solid team what a series!
