  6. If this team played the team from last year I think they'd win.

    Are they going to do better in the standings? With a healthy FLA, I doubt it…

  7. I don't understand this. When they have all those teams getting good (Florida healthy, Toronto is better, Carolina is a lot better) why they don't rebuild. Atlantic is totally insane div and I don't think retool will cut it anymore. When you have Hagens, Minten and Letourneau plus a few others, Bruins should tank for Dupont and some other 1st rounds. They are going to playoffs just for the sake of getting there. There is NO end goal (like winning the Cup), the owner wants revenue from tickets (at most from one or two series aka 6 games) 😢

  9. Better roster. Same open question underneath it. That’s usually enough to finish above .500 and short of April hockey — not because Boston did anything wrong this offseason, but because “better than last year” and “better than everyone else” stopped being the same statement a while ago.

  11. The B’s signed and acquired too many “veteran forwards” last year and they are clogging the bottom 9 for the young forwards. They still need to figure out what to do with vets like Reichel, Steeves, Eyssimont and probably Kuraly.

Most teams lose when they deal with “two dimes and a nickel” players for a “quarter” player- feel like the B’s have some serviceable NHL depth that if aggregated to really strengthen the depth of another team for an impact player. Nashville needs some “mid-to late twenties” players to round out their roster, could you extract one of their skilled young guys for 2-3 guys on cost-controlled NHL salaries?

    I don’t think Boston will miss Arvidsson next season. Peterka is — at worst — a “wash” next season, compared to Arvidsson’s last season. Peterka, though, is 24 — not 34 — and he’s signed for a few more seasons, to boot.

    If Boston extended Arvidsson (even just for two seasons), he’s also blocking roster space for younger guys that we all want to see get more NHL ice-time. It was a brief, but very good, tenure in Boston for Victor. Just time to move on.

    I’m not sure about this, honestly.
    Can’t predict the future, but if I were to try…

    Florida improved.
    Toronto improved.
    Ottawa got worse.
    Buffalo got worse.
    Detroit is probably about the same.
    Tampa is probably about the same.
    Montreal REALLY depended on a lot of overtime and shootout wins last season.
    Boston is probably about the same, but perhaps improved a bit.

    That’s a challenging landscape, for sure. Definitely the most competitive NHL division, top-to-bottom (again). However, I don’t think the B’s playoff odds are as bleak as you’re projecting in this video, Evan.

    In general, this decade, a team usually needs a 60% points-percentage to earn a playoff berth in the Atlantic Division. In an 82-game season, that translates to 98 Points earned. It’s possible to qualify as a wild card with fewer than 98 Points, but that’s uncommon.

    With (now) an 84-game season, the new “bar” for playoff berth should be 100 (or maybe 101) Points. We definitely won’t be seeing any teams “sneak” in to the postseason with below-90 Point seasons anymore.

  16. Everyone talks about right D. I think this team needs a legit #1 left D to pair with McAvoy. I expected Lohrei to become that. Nope. Find an actual #1 LD… please!

  17. Problems go deeper than just the division. Peterka getting points isn’t the same as Arvi driving the play. Someone needs to do that. Geekie is a candidate for regression and not the only one. The logjam will be stifling. And ultimately we all know the core players, who all remain, aren’t good enough. The youth need to leapfrog them.(unfortunately on the back end where this is most imperative there is no youth)
