The Calgary Flames are in a rebuild โ but that doesn’t mean they can’t add players.
Peter Klein identifies five realistic trade targets: younger, underutilized talent who could thrive with more opportunity in Calgary than they’re getting in their current situations.
From Shane Pinto in Ottawa to Braden Yager in Winnipeg to a couple of centers in Buffalo, here’s who the Flames should have on their radar.

I dont want any add that gives us more wins this season. I think draft picks and guys that are 2 years away are best
Carolina would likely have to pay Calgary to take Kotkaniemi off their hands for the next 4 years at $4.82M per. Likely a 2nd and and a 4th with the Flames parting with "future considerations" = aka nothing. That's still a lot for Calgary to take on for a player that might be their 3rd line C at best, IF HE CAN REHAB HIS GAME. His only bright point is that he took 1,506 faceoffs with Carolina at a 51.2% success rate.
No one wants Zary or Frost for what you want back? Maybe if Frost has a great first half; puts up 40 points, then sure, but at that point the Flames want him to stay. At this point they have shopped Zary for a second, and got no bites. I would have moved him two years ago, but then Flames fans would have lost their $hit over it. People need to do more than count numbers, and react. They need to see value thatโs real, and when itโs going to fit this club. Or when itโs not. No trade is going to fill the number one center spot, and we already have at least three guys that will work out fine in the top six, top nine. First of them being Reschny.
I can envision Winnipeg trading for LS C/RW/LW Martin Pospisil and his 3 x $2.5M contract at or before the 2027 TDL. The Jets are still a playoff capable team and could use Pospisil's grit in their Bottom 6. Only Niederreiter and Namestnikov are locks for Winnipeg's Bottom 6. I think that the return in draft picks could be much higher than most people think. Maybe up to a 2027 1st and a 2028 4th.
