San Jose Sharks face a pivotal decision with the 20th pick acquired from the Edmonton Oilers. Could this selection unlock a major addition to the blue line, or become a trade chip for immediate NHL help? Bowen Byram and Simon Nemec headline the potential defensive targets, while younger RFAs like Alexander Nikishin and Jamie Drysdale add intrigue to GM Mike Grier’s options. Would trading the pick be a shortcut to landing a proven impact player, or should the Sharks trust their scouting to find the next foundational piece?
JD Young dissects the trade market through the lens of salary cap realities, evaluating names from Colton Parayko and Dougie Hamilton to Jordan Kyrou for forward firepower. The debate extends to the merits of trading down for more assets vs. using the pick to bolster the defense corps. With the draft board shifting and free agency looming, every move could shape the Sharks’ rebuild and playoff ambitions.

I keep on trying to think what's the best senario look like to make us better. All the wild trades and I seen a video last night the guy made a great point. Every team that has picked for position/need in the last 6 drafts almost every player looks bad so far. You always and I mean always draft best player available no matter what and figure out your needs later. Look back at almost all of the teams that traded their BPA in the draft for their needs and it worked out great. So with that being said I'm on the Stenberg train..
Byram for the 20th seem like a good trade for the Sharks. Pair him with Dickinson,, Orlov and Cagnoni, Polhcamp and if Ferraro stays, or Muk if he stay as of today. Smith Mac Stenberg, Graf Misa Chernyshov ( good chemistry with Saginaw) Sherwood Wennberg Tofolli (the vet line) Reavo Ostapchuck Gaudette, Ecklund, kurashev, Regenda Goodrow. Thats a playoff team.
How about trading the 20th pick and something else up to the top 5 or 10? Dream to get stenberg and Reid.
How much would you pay for the signing rights to Darren raddish
There gonna want a lot more then 20.. that’s a pipe dream but solid target as I can’t see them wanting to commit almost $30 million to three defense
Reilly for 20th overall?!?!?? Why would you put that out in the universe? Horrible
I’m
Giving him 9 mm 7 years no prob
If the team just sits and picks I'm trying to manifest a Stenberg and Bleyl first round
These are all names that were discussed last year, and we ended up with Klingberg and Leddy. So be ready for Nurse.
With the 10 team trade list can players change the list over time or is it set when the contract is signed.
Eklund & #20 for Byram. Then take Stenberg at #2 to replace Ekky.
Sharks fans will say ‘no way that’s too much’… but uhh, the Sabres might not even take that.. we might have to add something, or retain some of Eklund’s aav to give the Sabres salary relief since Eklund & Byram have similar aav’s.
You have to give to get. They’re not giving us Byram for #20, Muk, & Musty (or something similar).
I don't think adding prospects is of too much concern after this draft. So next year and the year after not worried about adding to the pool. This year we draft the best player at #2 and with the 20th pick you trade for an upgrade on defense for the current roster. If not you take a damn at 20 but the picks after that are really of no concern. 2nd rounder no second round who cares. You are already having a back log with players who probably should graduate from the Cuda, plus the players you've drafted who are not signed. We have a surplus of forwards with no where to play, which is why if they do draft Stenberg, he should play a year before signing……or trade Eklund, as I've always said would be the move since last year.
Or, decide who is your guy, between Bystedt and Musty and trade the other. But all of these moves are to upgrade the defensive corps. We still don't know what to do with Toffoli for the next 2 years nevermind 2 more years of Dellandrea….😂
Good thing Goodrow and Orlov are in their last year on their deals.
