  1. The goal should be getting back to the playoffs. This year they overachieved. Anything beyond that may be unrealistic and reach for a player that may not be a long term solution.

  2. The Flyers have a good team on the rise despite them being in rebuild mode and also being a young team. They need to find some players who can score goals on the power play and in crunch time and they will be fine.

  3. There is no big swing available. This is also not the year to do that. The "big swing" would be someone like John Carlson on a 1 year rental to improve the powerplay and help mentor guys like Drysdale, York and Bonk. Replacing a couple of their bottom 6 vets who are better on the PK will also help improve the 2 weakest areas. 32nd in PP %, 22nd in PK % needs to improve, and should go a long way to get them back into the playoffs.

  4. There is literally nbody worth acquiring

"taking a big swing" in this Ffree agency period is how you doom yourself to being a 2nd round ceiling team.

This stupid mentality your proposing is why the Phillies, Sixers and Flyers never build complete teams. Just throw money, assets towards players who who aren't worth just to make the city happy

  5. Every year I look forward to free agency. Because I like hockey . You don’t like hockey , it a side to your meal , while it’s my meal . You do not have enough know to speak about this with any authority

  6. I will say this, none of us expected us to make the playoffs, let alone knock out the Penguins. Especially the way we’ve started. With that being said, he said the key word, “Experience”. These young guys just got a great experience of tasting the playoffs, a playoff win and a playoff loss. Therefore, I don’t believe they need to do much in my personal opinion. I would give these guys a season or 2 to grow and learn from this experience. Build the chemistry within the team, get better with the PP, and believe in yourselves that you are able and are worth being in the playoffs and making a run for the Cup. Heck, believe you can win it all. We have a chance to keep a young strong core group for a long time. Keep it the way it is. Fix what needs to be fixed and get back at it.

  7. Austin Matthews isn't a free agent. No big swings available in free agency whatsoever. Flyers need to rebuild like Montreal is doing.

  8. Before I type my 2 cents I hope Anaheim gets a little of the Cutter Gauthier karma this offseason! Think there is a decent chance he holds out unless he gets precisely what he wants for his contract which isn’t going to be cheap. Plus the way the Anaheim GM handles RFA contract negotiations look at Drysdale & Zegras for examples it could be a fun show to watch.

There are only a couple moves I would consider if I were the front office-

Trading Ristro & bringing in Trouba on at most a 3 yr deal if the price is right. Ristro was decent during the regular season, but wasn’t great in the playoffs & was terrible at the point on the PP. Think Sanheim could run the PP better than Ristro or Drysdale, but Drysdale is improving. Trouba could mentor Bonk with his big frame how to play defense & throwing the body. I see a lot on Carlson, but 1 yr for 12-13 million for a 37 y/o defenseman to run a PP for 1 season is way too much! With Zegras & Drysdale projections for contracts which is around 16-17 million for both leaves 21 million & that Carlson number only leaves 8-9 million in cap space & there are few other players that still need contracts so you will have no cap space to make any moves if needed.

I think Michkov is going to end up an elite player in the NHL eventually but probably not under a Tocchet coaching & system. If you could get Matt Boldy from Minnesota for a 1 for 1 or even throwing in a mid to late pick he would fit a lot better into the system & is a former teammate of Zegras & York from the USNDT. Boldy actually rotated playing on a line with Zegras & Alex Turcotte there also. Boldy plays all situations & has 4 yrs left at 7 million plus had 85 pts this season 42 g & 43 a & still fits the timeline & age at 25 y/o. Doubt Minny would trade him though unless they need cap space to resign Quinn Hughes long term.

Fantasyland but could happen in a perfect storm-

If McDavid wants a trade out of Edmonton n says I will only go to Philadelphia it would be relatively inexpensive in return all things considered. All NMCs trades where the player gives 1 team the return they get is joke. The Rangers only got a declining prospect 24th pick of the 2024 draft Liam Greentree & 3rd round pick in the 2026 draft for Panarin this season. Patrick Kane to the Rangers a couple yrs ago was AHL defenseman a 2nd round pick which was upgraded to a 1st because they reached the Eastern Conference finals & 4th round & New York got a low end defenseman prospect also with Patrick Kane. It wouldn’t be that cheap, but not that much more expensive either probably 2 picks & 2 prospects or one established player. Now if McDavid were to give them a few teams I wouldn’t get into a bidding war. All the YouTube commentators think it would cost a fortune for McDavid, but he could say no to the trade if you have to trade away why he wants to go there. McDavid basically gets a vote in what the return for him is. Now if he gets to be a UFA in 2 years if I were the Flyers I would try & see if you could land him.

I don’t like Matthews for a trade because he is coming off 2 down yrs & relatively serious knee injury, plus he is a finisher on the PP not really a QB on the PP which that is what they need somebody that can set up & run PP. If they did do it hopefully Matthews says I only want to go to Philly & it actually probably be pretty cheap give back whatever Toronto 1st round pick we have 27 or 28, & 2 prospects I think get its done. I don’t think Matthews wants to come to Philly either though under a Tocchet system. He would probably want to go to Utah, Anaheim, San Jose, or maybe the Kings. Those teams are more offense heavy run & gun which is the system he was playing when he was scoring 50-60 goals & was winning Maurice Richard Trophies. Plus those teams are closer to home & Utah, San Jose, & Anaheim are young upcoming teams. Utah & Anaheim were playoff teams this year and I think San Jose will be one next year. I wouldn’t be surprised if Edmonton didn’t make the playoffs next year!

Would love to Quinn Hughes, but price tag is too high with no trade protection. If he doesn’t resign with Minny I think the Flyers should be all over him next offseason & allegedly he loved having Tocchet as his head coach in Vancouver. I don’t see him going to New Jersey to play with his brothers, because he basically being taking a lot of ice time from his brother Luke. Philly he be 90 minutes from his brothers & be able to see them a lot more during the season. The playing with his brothers I could see towards the end of his career, or maybe you get them to come to Philly after their current contracts 2030 & 2032.
