Recent reports suggested that New Jersey Devils defenseman Simon Nemec had officially requested a trade out of New Jersey. However, those reports have since been debunked.
Multiple outlets, including New Jersey Hockey Now, confirmed that new GM Sunny Mehta has already been in contact with Nemec’s camp about a contract extension — directly contradicting parts of the original story. Nemec himself expressed interest in staying with the Devils at the end of the season.
So why is his name still swirling in trade rumors?
• The Devils have significant depth on the blue line (Dougie Hamilton, Brett Pesce, etc.)
• Nemec is a pending restricted free agent due for a big raise as a former 2nd overall pick
• New management may look to capitalize on his high trade value for forward help or other roster needs
Even without a formal trade request, a move isn’t off the table. In this video, we break down the full situation, what the debunked reports really mean, and why it can still happen.

Hate all these fake rumors about trade stuff… let's wait until it actually comes from an NHL insider.
Trade Dougie to get his salary off the books. Resign Nemec, get a scorer for Hughes. Markstrom is a big problem. Trade 1 of the defensive defenders.
