The Detroit Red Wings capped off their season in the most fitting way possible: painfully. This podcast covers the Lightning and Panthers vs. Red Wings game recaps, & analysis of just why Todd McLellan’s squad squandered their season in devastating fashion.
(00:00) – Intro & Mickey Redmond’s Broken Remotes
Laughing through the pain as Ken Daniels and Mickey Redmond perfectly illustrated all of our reactions to Hockeytown’s meltdown.
(05:40) – Red Wings vs. Panthers and Lightning Game Recaps
A Larkin-less Red Wings team is thoroughly embarrassed by a depleted Panthers squad. Even Patrick Kane’s 1400th point and Alex DeBrincat’s 41 goals aren’t enough for a silver lining.
(12:45) – A Pathetic End for Detroit & Todd McLellan’s Reaction
Moritz Seider has a Norris Trophy-worthy season. John Gibson had an outstanding stretch. Dylan Larkin scored a career high in goals and Lucas Raymond produced even through injury. So how did Detroit finish the season in the most pathetic manner possible?
(29:25) – Will Yzerman Keep McLellan On?
Will Todd McLellan stay on as head coach this offseason, or will Steve Yzerman believe he’s burned his connection to the room? What players have to go and what moves need to be made by the Red Wings front office to turn things around?
(39:45) Offseason Trade Targets & Season Stats That Sting
Elias Pettersson, Mason McTavish, Alexis Lafreniere, Kent Johnson – swing-for-the-fences names Steve Yzerman has to consider. Plus why the forward group is a bigger priority than the blue line.
(52:50) NHL News & Playoff Matchups Set – Predictions
Auston Matthews being non-committal in Toronto, the Leafs’ AI trade proposal saga, and Rick Bowness getting an extension. The Eastern Conference bracket is locked in and a 7 vs. 8 first-round matchup exists because the NHL refuses to re-seed. Ottawa crossing over into the Metro. Sabres-Bruins, Lightning-Canadiens, Hurricanes-Senators, Penguins-Flyers – picks and upset calls for every series. Stars-Wild hinges on Roope Hintz & Miro Heiskanen’s health, Golden Knights-Mammoth, and whether LA can give Anze Kopitar one last run.
(1:14:30) Overtime: Patron Questions
McLellan’s influence on roster decisions, Zach Werenski pipe dreams, the Patrick Kane top-six debate, Carter Mazer’s 2026 role, and what we actually want to hear from Yzerman’s end-of-season presser.

If Seider ever wins the Norris gotta change the name to Morris
THANK YOU BRAD!!! No one will talk about that, but yea they were played like shit before the Olympics.
That's the problem. "They're never going to lose the fan-base."
Management and players think we fans are chumps.
I say run it back. Either they learn to swim, or the get to wallow in their own shit the rest of the year.
If I have to see Rasmussen play in Wings jersey ever again, I will be crashing out.
McLelland, Lalonde and Blashill plus 4 late season lapses in a row shows it ain't a coaching issue, it's a player issue. Jettison most of the bottom six and bring the rooks up to take their places and trade anyone you have outside of Larks, Cat, Gibby and Mo to bring in a 1LW and a 1C.
Brad brought up that Gibson should not have been playing. The Wings were out of callups but i'm pretty sure an "injury' could have called for an emergency callup, Evan mentioned that GR was also playing that night. Postava played and Augustine was his backup so Cossa wasn't even dressed and could have been called up, but he would have been thrown to the wolves with the disaster that would have played in front of him so it may have been a good thing that he stayed in GR.
Brad says the defence is good and no need to touch them but Ed will bring us some forward power which is essential. He should be on the block and perhaps even ASP. Scoring needs to be our priority considering our 5 on 5 play.
I got Boston in 6
Yzerman finished me at the deadline with that pathetic trade at the deadline. Gave up a top 15 pick,a 3rd rounder and a prospect for a 34 year old defenseman. This team was negative goals against at the time he made that trade. You simply can’t make that trade for that roster.
Gentlemen. Screw this team. Start over. I've never seen such a bunch weak minded losers.
call up Zadina
Trochek should not be a target. This team needs to focus on young players. You are chasing first round exits. How have you not learned this lesson by now.
I'm in danger 🤣
Trade for Wilmer Skoog, he’s the gritty bottom 6 forward the Wings need
I don't wanna see a half of this team on the ice in September during training camp. Trade them, buyout them, waive them, whatever, there need to be major, major changes and a big culture shift, this team stinks as hell
Ya let’s Boo the home opener next year I like that that’s what they deserve
Sign Matthews, after his end of season presser it looks pretty obvious he wants out. Say what you want, they at least made the dance multiple years and then Larkin can 2C and go off. Won't fix the give-a-damn meter but I'm up for the change.
After the 5-1 opener vs the Habs it was all clear
The Illitch family had their chance, let someone else own the team. One possibility is to have the City of Detroit or the State of Michigan buy the team. The City of Green Bay owns the Green Bay Packers. Maybe it would be a way to televise more games and to make the games more affordable.
Yzerman has to go. It's time. He gave away a 2nd to let go of Walman. He didn't resign Ghost or Perron, then trades a 4th to get Perron back… He resigns Rasmussen. He signs Copp and Compher to ridiculous contracts. He resigns Ben Chariot.. not to mention all the other aging veteran defensemen who got buried in the minors. He traded an unprotected 1st, Soderblom, a 4th, and one of our best prospects for another aging veteran defenseman.. in a year where we had only 3 guys who scored more than 20 goals. Every time someone asks Yzerman about scoring, he brings up keeping the puck out of our own net…. You still need to score goals Steve! Scotty Bowman must have beat two way forward into his head so much that he can't think straight. All our prospects are supposed to be high compete, great two way players.. well where are these so called high compete guys? And two way means you can still produce offense. It's not just defense. I know Yzerman will leave on his own terms, but I just don't see anything changing until he's gone. And he was my favorite player growing up. Sucks.
If they get rid of Todd, I will immediately terminate my season tickets after 51 years … without question or remorse.
I had to comeback and comment a day later because I had a thought….a reality check if you will.
The Atlantic division is insane, the challenge only gets tougher from here.
The stars kind of aligned for the wings this year, with Florida's injury to barkov and Tkachuk sewering their season, Toronto having a disappointing year and missing the playoffs.
They pissed away an opportunity that might not be there next season.
I fully expect Florida to be at the top of the division next year, with Tampa and Montreal right there. Now that Buffalo has broken their drought, I expect them to maintain expectations, same for Ottawa. Ottawa now in 2 straight years, after seemingly being out of it.
Havnt even mentioned Boston yet…….
Yzerman has serious work to do, because next seasons outlook is, last place in the Atlantic being just as likely as fighting for a playoff spot.
I could see trading two 1st round picks for a capable scoring threat. A top notch winger under 30. Something worthy.
Instead added a 34 year old RHD who may or may not be with the team in a year.
Absolute blunder.
Red Wing draft pick traded to St. Louis is now a top 5 lottery pick???
To say the least it was an utter failure!
With that said, this team needs to be and deserves to be completely dismantled!
Keep Sieder, Debrincat, Larkin, Raymond and Showtime.
Trade, sell, buyout say goodbye to the rest do whatever you gotta do to turn the ship right!
You don't want to play and show up day in, day out and earn your pay you're not going to play here statement needs to be said and shown!
I even hate to say it but even Larkin and Raymond were below par this year…
Something needs to change and dramatically!
This shits getting old!
The biggest problem on this team is The bottom 6. No depth. They rely too much on Larkin Debrincat and Kane to carry all the offense. I'm willing to give Kasper another season and maybe keep Copp. JT Compher, Rasmussen, Appleton gotta go. I also think their pros scouting needs an overhaul. Also get rid of Talbot and give Cossa a shot. I'd keep Perron and get a guy like Robert Thomas. Ain't Tanguays fault when most of their problems stem from anemic 5 on 5 play. I like Simon Edvinsson but he's gotta get better at puck management and getter better defensively. A guy like Quinn Hughes would have been great as we seem to have problems getting the puck out of out zone getting hemmed in and out shot in our own zone. Leading to constantly having to ice the puck. We need a Tomas Holmstrom who screens the goalie and deflects shots. Just to remind everyone that not willing to pay the price in front of the net allows the opposition goalie to see the puck and why we are getting goalied with no sustained offensive pressure from the bottom 6 whatsoever
Who would have thought that the only New York team to make the playoffs would be Buffalo.
EP40 is too much of a Red Wing. Steer clear of that. This roster needs some sandpaper/grit/piss and vinegar that actually cares.
HAS an NHL coach under contract EVER quit?
We need to get rid of Cleary, Fischer, Kronwall, and Blais…
Cleary has been in charge of player development since 2017, and we’ve developed nobody.
Larkin needs to give up the Captaincy…
If we do those two things, and nothing gets better… then Yzerman can go.
Yzerman and his bodies need to go.
Prospects get worse when getting into Detroit and gets better when getting out.
That Hims ad about teams not turning it around in the offseason… yeesh. Not what I want to hear right now
When it breaks it should say WT_
Debrincat, Seider, Larkin and Gibson were the only reasons this team was close to making the playoffs. The biggest problem that I have is that Cat at 5’8” is the team’s toughest player and enforcer. He’s the only one that sticks up for his teammates, everyone else just shrugs their shoulders and skates off when there’s a problem.
I think its crazy if tuch ever gets 9 million hes not even a ppg player
