Despite being a New York Rangers fan, when it comes to the AHL, my favorite team has been the Bridgeport Islanders (formerly the Bridgeport Sound Tigers) ever since my childhood. This is because I live in Stratford, which is right next to Bridgeport. I will really miss them when they relocate to Hamilton. But due to this, effective as of the end of the current AHL season, which is going to be within the next week or 2, my new allegiance will be the Hartford Wolf Pack. TBH, amid them being the only AHL team in Connecticut following the Bridgeport Islanders’ departure, and amid who their NHL counterpart is, they should definitely rebrand as the Connecticut Rangers. That way, more people than currently would attend the games, as it represents the whole state, which has way more New York Rangers fans than New York Islanders fans. Despite Total Mortgage Arena in Bridgeport being closer to New York City than PeoplesBank Arena in Hartford, the team’s home would still be Hartford, as they are really successful there unlike the Isles were. It would just be a name change. As for Bridgeport, I could possibly see that arena eventually landing an ECHL franchise that would serve as the AHL team’s replacement. This is because they are probably never getting the AHL back, despite still having a decent arena, making it a good potential market for the ECHL. We would have to see what happens though. But for now, please welcome yours truly to the Hartford Wolf Pack fandom!
