Can Laine Actually Help Habs Make Playoffs Again?

Montreal Canadiens need to find solutions, is Patrik Laine one of them?

  1. Technically its gally's 2nd career healthy scratch. He was healthy scratched his first game ever in the 2012 – 2013 season

  2. No help is coming.

Cant realistically expect Hage or Reinbacher to fix what is a lack of a shutdown d-man.

  3. I feel like we go to extremes when we lose a couple or go on a win streak. One week we want the cup, the next week fire and trade everyone. We need Carey Price. Not to play nets,( though that would be awesome ) but to tell everyone to chill out. It's a couple of weeks before we begin our low-dose aspirin regimen

  4. Love the channel but we are not making the playoffs. We give up 4+ goals a game, what does Robidas do on this coaching staff?!?!?! they fired the goalie coach, why not the "defense coach" on one of the worst defensive teams in the league?????

  5. Absolutely bringing Patrick Lane he's the one that got them into the playoffs last year with 20 goals on the power play.. what if they don't make the playoffs and then you look back and say oh we should have played Patrick Lane😢😢

  6. My take, and please feel free to skip my comment as it will be long and they are only my views…this teams defence and defensive team system needs to drastically change. Man-on-man is not sustainable and watching the winning goal from Anaheim, seeing both Habs D leave the front of the net to go into the corner is NOT how you defend. With that said, this is obviously MSL's system he wants to play and it's not the "system" Habs fans are use to seeing. I feel it's way too late for this team to completely change how they play defensively so surely small adjustments by the coaching staff will be made but basically this team will do or die with this D system this season. IF MSL chooses not to change the D system next season will IMO decide his fate as the head coach of this team moving forward. With all that said, this team is primary trying to win games offensively and continuously skating…again, not sustainable IMO but the playoffs will magnify whatever weakness this team has so stay tuned. I feel Laine needs to play…they are struggling on the PP and Laine needs to play for a contract (somewhere) for next season…win win. Will the D improve, no, but I don't feel it will be drastically worse with Laine. Play him 3rd line minutes, but get him on the PP and see what happens. As for Carrier…a good 5-6 D man, always taking a beating along the boards and too small to clear the front of the net, but he always gets right back up, scores the occasional key goals, and he's the only other righty D after Dobson. Also a reason to get rid of man on man…he would benefit with a more zone or structured D system…case in point, watching Danault, normally a dependable defensive responsible forward but struggling under MSL's system. Also noticing Guhle really struggling. Regarding Reinbacher…on one hand, I don't mind calling up Reinbacher and allowing Hage a game or 2 to let them understand what they need to work on to be a full time NHL player…set them up for a good hard training off-season. BUT, the huge risk is Reinbacher and Hage are not yet physically mature enough (yes Reinbacher has size and weight on paper but look at Dach, you would think he should be dominating with his physical stature, but he is easily prone to injury)…so if Reinbacher and Hage play games, you risk injury and possibly serious injury and in Reinbacher's case, with his history with injuries, I don't know if I would risk it. He is doing well in Laval, getting the big minutes in all situations, and readying himself for an AHL playoff run…let him be the Laval D stud, go as far as he can in the playoffs, then train hard in the off-season. My last thought…and it's a super hot take (won't happen bc of the moves Hughes has made already but going to say it anyway…) Fowler should be sent down and Monty&Dobes should be the ones to go into the playoffs. The reason…this teams defensive weakness are not going to improve, and you are basically telling Fowler, you need to be Cary Price/Ken Dryden/Patrick Roy like to will this team far into the playoffs. IMO, with the way this team plays D…even Roy couldn't help this team…well maybe win an extra game or two but certainly burn himself out. My fear, as was shown vs Anaheim, it doesn't matter how good a goalie Fowler may be or become…if the D in front of you doesn't help out, you are going to let in some unstoppable goals. So imagine going into the playoffs with Fowler as your #1…and you get blown out by whatever team you are playing…then what do you do? Go back to Dobes immediately or let Fowler gain experience even if it means getting blown out and lose confidence? I say, if you want to see Reinbacher and Hage, sure give them a game or 2 vs NHL teams, but send them down, stack the Laval Rocket, let them go on a run with the best chance to go far…playing big minutes, playoff pressure (playing games in front of Laval crowd)…maybe they win themselves a championship? Ok, that's it…my views. I hope Dach is ok and returns sooner rather than later. Those who stuck around to read, cheers! Those who vehemently disagree with me, you may be right and I may be so wrong, time will tell. On to the next game! Go Habs Go!

  7. Laine helped last year but this year, too big of a liability on D. Habs are second or third in scoring…Laine would ride the bench and get in on a PP makes no sense. Team has to shore up D first…then worry about goals

  8. Reinbacher. We have now accrued enough cap space to bring him up. By a whopping $2000. Not sure what happens when they want to bring Hage in however. Pretty sure they can't accrue that much before he would be available. Someone would have to be sent back to Laval, and at this point, the only person that can is Fowler (or Reinbacher if they call him up).

Bring Reinbacher up for a cup of coffee, get in a couple games to evaluate and send him back down.

  9. His wife has a new youtube channel. She posted a video about how exciting she was that Laine didn't get traded and she was staying in Montreal.

  10. Bring Laine in he still has time to make his 20 pp goals before regular season ends. You can scratch him when playoffs begin.

  11. Washington has the slowest player in Ovechkin but he still has a wicked shot from the sidewall. Laine is much the same but an even better shot. He could definitely help their PP.

  12. I like David but we already have 4 rookies on the team, all of them still making rookie mistakes. Can't afford another spot this year. Next year, bring him in game one or this season after a playoff spot has been clinched.

  13. Laine ? What? Really? It's over for him , he will never play again's for Montreal and i tx God for that !
