On this episode of the Blackhawks Breakaway Podcast, Pat Boyle and Charlie Roumeliotis are joined by three-time Stanley Cup champion and new CHSN Blackhawks analyst Alec Martinez for his podcast debut. Martinez discusses his transition from player to broadcaster and shares his perspective on the trade deadline, including the impact of Nick Foligno being moved and what it means for the Blackhawks’ leadership group moving forward.
Later in the conversation, Martinez dives into the development of young defensemen Artyom Levshunov and Sam Rinzel, Connor Bedard’s growth from Year 2 to Year 3, and why strong relationships off the ice often translate to better chemistry on the ice. He also reflects on lessons from his career and how they apply to a young team building toward the future.

Good to see Alec still in the Blackhawks' fold. His current job suits him well. It's great to hear his perspective about things! Enjoyed it!
Alex, sit down, with the GM,and just maybe, show him how to manage a team! His moves, and mostly his non moves, leave Bedard, hanging in the lurch!
Alec Martinez is definitely a class act. When he and Pat Maroon joined the Chicago Blackhawks last season they both probably knew it would be to end their hockey careers and they both played like they were in their prime, they put it all out there. We fans were privileged to have them both on "our" team and I can only hope that Alec will become a permanent fixture in the Blackhawk broadcast booth.
Alex audio is not working
Next year all the “kids” on the Blackhawks roster will be locked up long-term or under team control for the next five years at least. Next year the Blackhawks should be contending for a playoff spot. Frondel, West, Nestrasil, and 2026 top 10 draft pick, and 3 more 1st Rd picks will still not even be signed yet. The next three or four years the Blackhawks are in excellent position, have a ton of draft capital, and a ton of caps space from which to attract top free agents. The Blackhawks are in original six franchise and with a Great fan base. Chicago is an excellent destination location for most veteran free agents. Don’t know about dynasties and Stanley cups, but we are well positioned to be a very successful franchise for the next 10 years minimum. As a longtime Blackhawks fan i’ll take that. It’s going to be a fun time from 2026 till 2035 minimum in Chicago Blackhawks hockey world. The future looks great!!
