With this win , Ottawa is out of reach for Columbus, Washington and the Islanders. Those three teams are still in the hunt for the third division spot in the Metropolitan division , but they are out of the wild card hunt. Only Detroit can threaten Ottawa now. Earlier this week Columbus beat Detroit in extra time. Had they won in regulation instead , assuming all other games went the same way , Ottawa would already have a playoff spot clinched. As it is, Ottawa needs one point in their last two games, or for Detroit to lose one of their last three games. And they have the tie breaker against Boston for the 1st wild card spot, if they should finish in a tie.
Their best defensemen are returning, Ullmark is in form, top six is still lethal… this is Ottawa's final form.
The Senators are playing at an unreal level right now…question is how long can they continue, all fans know their track record.

coaching was never the problem with islanders. problem with islanders is they have no talented o-men (horvath and barzal are mediocre at best), they have crappy d-men who dont know how to play defense, and crappy o-men who also dont know how to play defense, and a starting goalie who yes does make great saves every now and then but also lets in bad goals. best thing for me as an NYI fan is the oppurtunity to see more of the younger players make the team next year. time to get rid of alot of the older players (let some other sucker of a team have them).
