The Penguins Are Good Again…How?!

Welcome to Top Shelf!

In our latest episode, the guys take a closer look at one of this NHL season’s biggest surprises, the Pittsburgh Penguins, who are on the verge of heading back to the playoffs after a 3-year hiatus. How in the world did they manage to right the ship and re-build around Crosby, Malkin and Letang, and how far can they go this postseason?

  1. Except for the last game they played Carolina tough one goal games or overtime. If they make it through first round they have a chance against anybody. No one really dominated them over the season.

  2. The Penguins are this year’s cinderella team. Just like the Capitals were last year’s cinderella team.

  3. The Penguins played the hurricanes hard all year except 1 game. I think they’d hold up well against them with a full roster.

  4. Playoff hockey is about goaltending, depth scoring and defense. The Pens have depth scoring out the wazoo, as much as or more than any team out there. If they can play solid defense and get “good enough” goaltending they might surprise the league. For me the biggest issue is “can they play playoff defense”.

  5. Let's keep up the physicality and sticking up for our teammates. But goaltending must improve obviously, especially if offensive production goes down. So proud of my guys.

  6. They didn’t do the Skinner move for no reason. Sure, it may have been a lateral move in terms of ability, but they saved a lot on cap space moving on from Jarry, and then they turned Kulak into Sam Girard. It was pretty calculated.

  7. By you guys saying they’re getting rid of Jarry because they’re giving up means that you don’t have any idea what’s going on with that team. You’re just basically basement bloggers with no access.

  8. Pens are my team and what they've done this year is nothing short of amazing, but down the stretch a lot of teams that were fighting for a playoff spot in the east have started to fall off pretty hard with the exception of the flyers, who should make an excellent/favorable first round opponent.
