  1. I usually feel that when a coach gets let go, he’s the scapegoat so the GM can keep his job. This feels similar to me. Darche had to do something to stop the free-fall. His trades have been questionable and since he can’t trade the players at this point, he fired the only person he could right now. Other than removing himself, this was his best option to show he’s trying to do something and to try and keep his job.

  2. Good move. Isles needed a change of pace and Roys defensive structure is atrocious. Timing sucks but not doing it now risks Pete being picked up by another team. Hes a decent coach.

  3. I wonder if you get a new coach bump, when the coach didn't lose the locker room before. I feel like a lot of times the new coach bump is something that comes from players disliking their coach, and so they get to play more free under the new coach. As far as I can tell I don't feel like the islanders quit on Roy, I feel likethey just played their heart out and are worn out.

  4. There are so many reasons you don't fire a coach right before the end of a season heading into a possible post-season. The less obvious reason is how this rash decision will affect future coaches. You want to motivate coaches, not make them feel perpetually under threat of firing.

This is the wrong move for right now and for the future.

  5. I see comments about the new coach bump. Sometimes that works sometimes not. Back in August they weren’t expected to make the playoffs. I think Darche should have grabbed DeBoer as soon as he could and locked him into a deal for next season and let Roy ride out the remainder of this season. With that being said I’m not too sure getting rid of Roy is the right move, but since Darche made that decision, and it’s his to make, he should have at least let Roy finish the season.

  6. I was against hiring Roy and was happy to be wrong. Roy was doing a very good job. Romanov and De Angelo hurt. Isles D keep getting burned on break-aways and odd man rushes… That's not the Coach. Nothing can save a gutless team… Every game the Isles are either chasing the game or giving up a lead. MADDENING. We could still have Barry Trotz…

  7. I think it's ridiculous that They fired Roy. I wonder if he had a falling out with the staff or something. I'm not sure coaching is the reason. They were not good last year and then they were in third place this year for quite a while. I think there must be something else going on. It's a little bizarre.

  8. Other than Schaefer, this is a dull, boring team. Losing to the Islanders is like drowning in three inches of water.

  9. Shocking move.
I know they were struggling the past 10 games but the guy took them from bottom of the East to being in a playoff position for most of the season.

  10. He got this really bad roster team in this good of a spot and get fired??? Who was even thinking at start of season that the Isles had a remote chance of being in playoffs??? I thougth Roy was to be considered for the Jack Adams doing this amazing job with that group and how Shaefer did….Darche is so stupid….

  11. Good timing by Isles GM. The Leafs keep missing opportunities, he fits the bill for what would’ve been a good coaching change for the leafs next season. Too bad, so sad Toronto.

  12. Hello hockey guy, Roy will have another name to add to his bag of people who did him dirty.
If he goes to Toronto or Boston (probably not) we can all have a good laugh and expect more great hockey.😊
    And rivalries.

  13. If this is the right move, Todd McClellan should have been fired too. I am not saying he should have but rationally speaking, Detroit was tied for first place in the East and ranked #2 on the power rankings back in January and now will probably miss the playoffs.

  14. A change was probably needed. Seems like Roy lost the locker room. DeBoer is just a nightmarish choice. His track record, especially with goaltenders, is horrible. Bruce Cassidy should have been the pick. I only hope that DeBoer doesn't ruin Sorokin. And actually, with Ottawa's win today, the Isles are 1 point below the playoff line. And they don't play again until Thursday.

  15. There's probably more behind the scenes we arent seeing to have this happen. Maybe Roy and Darsche don't have a good relationship.

  16. Simple to understand. It's all about the dynamics between the owner and the GM. Look at the moves Mathieu Darche made and you can easily deduct what he promised the owner to get the job. Now he's going full-on kneejerk move in the hopes it will shake the team enough to send them on a winning spree and make the playoffs, and fulfill the promise he made, knowing too well he didn't have the roster for it. Roy saved his bottom by putting the team there. Then he fires him like its his fault. Total amateur move.
