Penguins postgame: Momentum grows. Inside Pens 2nd big win

  1. Thanks for the excellent reporting Dan! This was yet another great game by the Penguins and you can really feeling the momentum shifting in their favour

  2. Gotta say, all season long whenever it looked like they may be in trouble and about to lose ground, they've stepped up and played great games.

  3. That's gonna hurt if the season ends with a 7 way tie for 6-12th and it comes down to most wins… A just ending that would be!
But lets hope the boys keep steam-rolling the leagues best teams! Back to back against the capitals, and the blues fighting for the last spot, will be tough games to end the season on.

  4. Dan, I respectfully disagree with your assessment of Skinner being number 1 goalie. I understand why many people hope to see that happen. Stu is very, very likable, and his been playing good as well.
But I have to point out the numbers which show that Å ilovs is outperforming Skinner. The only number that counts is the amount of available points a goalie helps his team earn in games they played. Å ilovs earned 0.6 while Skinner has earned 0.58 with the win over Detroit. Numbers don’t lie. Both guys are working hard to earn points and have been posting almost identical results in the point accumulation.
What is telling to me is that the game that was billed as the most important game for Pens in the last two years, the game against their nemesis, at their arena, the game which had so much riding on it, coaching staff deliberately put Å ilovs in. They even interrupted the normal rotation and had Skinner start twice in a row, the second start being against Dallas. Everyone understands the difference between needing to win against Dallas and absolute necessity in having to win on the road against their nemesis Islanders. Skinner started and lost against Dallas, Å ilovs started and won the most important game for Pittsburgh of the last two years.
And then Skinner wins a second most important game of this stretch today. Both guys are working hard to help the team earn points. Once more, Arty has a slight lead on Stu in this regard.
I like Skinner a lot, he is impossible not to like, but neither goalie has earned the number 1 spot. However, based on coaches selecting Arty to start at Islanders, I can see what they think.
Penguins will continue to alternate, even in the playoffs and will win the cup, because of this, more teams will adopt full alternating system next year, at least the teams that have two quality goaltenders.
Thank you Arty for helping the team earn 42 points in 35 games which is 0.6 of all points available in the games you played.
Thank you Stu for helping the team earn 27 points in 23 games which is 0.586 of all points available in the games you played for the Pens.
Arty’s 0.6 point rate is good for 98.4 total points in 82 games.
Stu’s 0.586 point rate is good for 96.1 total points in 82 games.
I hope both Arty and Stu complete ignore these videos and articles which I just proved to be a likability contest. Numbers don’t lie. I’m glad that the team actually uses coaches judgement.
I am grateful that Arty shut it down after letting in the three goals against the Isles and gave the team a chance to not only come back, but to create a massive momentum swing that carried into a decisive win over the Red Wings in which Stu was able to shine bright. Keep it going.
