Hockey insider Elliotte Friedman reported earlier this week that the Flyers and Christian Dvorak are talking a contract extension, as the 29-year old center is having a career year with the Philadelphia Flyers and playing on the same line as Trevor Zegras.

The only way I see Danny B dealing Coots is to a cup contending team other than that he is here to stay until he retires.

I would be super impressed if Briere had the stones to trade Dvorak before trade deadline. It would show deep discipline in staying the course and recognizing that Flyers are an improving team but realistically have no chance at Cup until they land 1C & 1D. That said, We know Flyers will over-pay

Coots is still a serviceable center in the way Charlie said and he's a good faceoff guy. He's not the Selke winner he was, but he's still solid.
If we trade Dvorak and buy out Couturier, who is playing center?

I believe the way to get Dvorak to do 3YR is to overpay on the AAV 3YR/$20M, b/c his 5YR is probably $22-25M
Dvorak has been really good. I think there is easy justification to extend him for at least a couple years until some of the younger guys mature a bit.
At the very minimum the flyers have
$7,285,142 (Proj. Cap space) + $1,758,333 (Atkinson) + $5,071,429 (Laughton, Hayes) = $14,114,904 with absolutely no other changes, potentially next season to work with
AND have to deal or resign Ersson (will be lower pay if retained), resign Drysdale will probably want to be with York & Zegras for the total length of Yorks contract so ($5-6m/4/5y), resign Andrae, resign Brink, sign or deal Deslaurier, Grundstrom, resign Dvorak and Zegras
In my opinion Dvorak doesn’t resign for less than 5.4m/y – signed with worse stats last year – playing higher role – producing more here
Zegras doesn’t resign unless it’s 4/5y@7m
I think these guys are in for the long haul together, especially York, Drysdale, Zegras, Brink and Forester.
Unfortunately you have to leave cap room to resign Michkov by the end of next season and his price tag won’t be cheap. 7×7 minimum
Good luck having anyone pick up Coots’ contract unless we keep some of his contract. That is absurd. We’re right back to keeping / retaining salaries. Won’t happen.

Dvorak is not "tied" to Zegras. Their three months of success has not been so noteworthy as to necessitate an extension for Dvorak. Just stop with that.
Couturier, Cates, and Dvorak are all third line centers, two need to go, Dvorak's contract is up first, he's gotta go, especially with Barkey asserting himself as an NHL Center.
Yes, Couturier is still a good defensive center. But he's an offensive non-factor, which means he's bottom six. THERE ARE TWO MANY BOTTOM SIX PLAYERS ON THE FLYERS!!! That includes Dvorak. Trade him at the deadline, I don't care it if is only for a 3rd round pick.
