  1. I think it was a mistake. But hey, Cassidy will find another head coach's job when he wants it, and he'll play the Knights many times.

  2. 9 years of existence and already 4 head coaches DESPITE missing the playoffs JUST ONCE, going to the cup finals TWICE and winning once. Not to mention went to the finals in their FIRST YEAR! The NHL has always been unforgivable with head coaches but this organization is far scummier than the rest. Never struggled like an expansion team should, were immediately really good, NEVER been bad and yet on their fourth head coach already.

  3. Torts will turn this team around starting tonight!! He has alot of pieces and he will solve the puzzle!!

  4. Coming from a Flyers fan, you guys are gonna love Torts. He will tell you exactly like it is and will pull zero punches. The most popular comment I've been seeing is that Marner is gonna hate him and I just don't see it. Torts has calmed his temper a bunch in his older age and he knows to let high talent guys do their thing. He will bench him if he makes a huge mistake repeatedly, but IMO the benchings work. Michkov, Konecny, and Couturier played some of their best hockey after being benched

  5. Just a few thoughts, from a Flyers fan: Torts is usually very amiable, and open to discussion as he is here today, w/press at the beginning of each season (after he's had some time off). Also, usually during the regular season on practice days he's calmer, and even bordering on contemplative. That's when the press can get the best answers out of him.

On game days he's amped up, sometimes to a wild extent — and rarely will they get real answers out of him, even after a win. It just depends on his mood, which varies quite a bit. However, much of that dramatic behavior is done on purpose so Torts can bend the press to his will and thus shape the narrative around his team. It's a tactic.

Overall, Torts struck me as a genuine person off-the-ice who cares about his players, and who also cares about many things outside of the hockey world. One example: he loves dogs, and all animals. He can also be interesting, in the sense that he has a unique perspective as to how he sees the game and he will often share his thoughts openly on all aspects of the game. Having said all that, the media circus that follows Torts does tend to get tiring very quickly. For better or worse, it often causes discourse around the team to become about him instead of the players. Some fans enjoy that, but that's not why I buy a ticket or turn on my TV. But to each their own.

Vegas has a more mature, and certainly more talented group than Philly did when Torts was hired there and so the Golden Knights will likely be a better fit for his coaching style. In fairness to Torts, he wasn't really the right coach for the team in Philadelphia in 2022. He may actually be just what the doctor ordered for Vegas. In any case, I wish him well.

  6. I love this hire—Johnny is the man with the plan…so glad he’s back behind a bench! 🥅

  7. From this flyers fan, enjoy golden knight fans, this guy is so much fun to watch in interviews.. he's gonna fix your teams issues until they get sick of him

  8. I never want to hear about how the bruins did Cassidy dirty. This is absolutely disgusting treatment and it is going to backfire
