Kirby Dach is hurt… again.
The Montreal Canadiens forward is out 2–4 weeks with an upper-body injury, raising serious questions about his future in Montreal. With Dach set to become a restricted free agent (RFA) at the end of the season, Kent Hughes and the Habs front office have a major decision to make.
Can the Canadiens trust Kirby Dach to stay healthy long-term? Or is it time to pivot as younger players like Owen Beck, Michael Hage, and others push for roster spots?
In this video, Shaun Starr and Marco D’Amico break down:
Dach’s injury history and durability concerns
His fit in the Canadiens’ rebuild timeline
Contract options as an RFA
Internal competition from rising prospects
What the Habs SHOULD do this offseason
Is Kirby Dach still part of the future… or is his time in Montreal running out?

Texier and newhook are nice 3rd liners. Grind + talent + physical enough. Dach is none of those things
How much of this video also applies to Kaiden Guhle at this point?
Now that Hughes has signed Matheson to a long term contract with a NMC, should the Habs try to move Guhle for a different piece while he still has value?
DOES he still even have that same value at this point?
The whole Dach trade was a mistake, we gave a first round pick for him before we even knew who would be available at that pick and I believe he was injured when we got him.
I was really looking forward to a Dach/Bolduc line. I thought it might help both players get going. Alas, ‘tis not to be. Perhaps Florian will get a look now.
It goes all the way back to junior with Kirby
Dach needs to go, too soft for his size and injury prone….
There are too many games for Montreal to win to keep them in the driver's seat
Guhle and Dach, I like both these players but man something is wrong with that Alberta Beef
Dach or F. Xhekaji on the third line give me Xhekaji
Enough is enough.
So we need a physical top 6 forward, a physical top 4 RHD. A physical #5/6 defenseman who the coach trusts to play 14 minutes a night.
Also need bottom 6 scoring. Yeah… lots of work to do in the summer.
Xhekaji, Thorpe,Tuch, Beck and Paupneakis are playing on the bottom 2 lines
If Habs make the PO's they will ice Texier on the 1st line and two rookies on the 2nd line.
A shoddy defense, worse PK and GA of the playoffs teams, and you expect success?
This guy is made of fucking glass
The guy broke his foot blocking a shot for the good of the team, for goodness sakes. Here, he gets a concussion from Viel butt ending him in the head. (rewatch the video, frame by frame to see)
People are really impatient and unfair on Dach.
Dach is done for the season.
Bye bye Kirby.
Kirby is a fragile player , the Habs need to move on from him. A young version of a Sam Bennett or a Tom Wilson is required . The Canadiens are loaded with young skill guys , but they definitely need some guys with a little controlled nastiness in their game. A big skilled nasty defenseman is also required , maybe a young version of Chris Pronger .Maybe Sammy Blais can fit back in the lineup.
Yeah Right. He’s not developed a compactness ( I think it’s coordinated core strength come to think of it ) that every guy needs to survive in the NHL. Watching him play there’s two parts to his body -upper and lower and they don’t mesh like most guys do. Hits come out of nowhere in fractions of a second, and he just doesn’t know how to protect himself. I’ve never seen anything like it.
It looks as if Dach will not be back. He has been hurt a good part of his career. Too bad. Even, when he did play, he was not a great player for the Habs. He can easily be replaced. Habs look at their roster like an investor looks at his stock portfolio. If you have a stock that is losing money for you or is very risky, do you keep it hoping it will bounce back. If you do, you have fallen in love with a stock that should be replaced. The same is for the Habs when considering what to do with Dach.
But injury prone David Reinbacher is the second coming of Serge Savard?? Lol😅
On a team struggling to defend you even suggest Texier? Really? Popycock!
Kings won the Danault trade. He is useless now
There's no doubt that Kirby Dach is a talented player; however, I think it's time for the Habs to move on from him. His many injuries not only sets Dach back, but it sets the team's progress back as well.
Any chance we ship Kirby to Vancouver for something before he gets the walk?
Goodbye Kirby, we liked what little we saw from you but we can't depend on you to be there when we need you!
It unfourtanly that Laine and Dach couldn't stay healthy. It would be an different picture. If habd battle until the end for an playoff spot it an success. They didn't pay an big price at deadline, I'm ok with that
A player that has two major knee injuries same knee operations is going to have a hard time making a healthy return. broke his foot now it is a shoulder or whatever. give him a break his value despite the potential does not compute anymore. How many injuries will the Dr's let this player be victim of before they tell him it is risky to persue this? I think Kurby needs to reflect on his future as a active hockey player? his health is very important he is still young.BUt that is Kurby's decision anyway. IT makes no sense to sign him for 4million sorry salary cap obliges. illogical for a GM to sign a player with so many injuries ?
We need Flo X …or Thorpe ..or Blais . To add some jam .!! Too soft when games get rough !!
Marco that is unrealitic to say he must better protect himself. count the injuries Marco look at how serious the same knee was injured twice in two consecutive years. he probably plays with a dpecial harnest and i think this affects his speed to get up when he his hit and falls to the ice. the best players get injured look in Edmondton one of the two head players out for the rest of the season.? learn to protect himself about Dack come on guys .Dack is a nice person everyone would want him to suceed but ???
Would Dach take less money to stay? I don't think he's worth 4 million per season if he can't play a full season. As a businessman, I would be leary of hiring someone to do physical labor with a long history of being on Workers Compensation.
Do we still think Hugo is good at trades? Dach trade sucked. Bolduc trade sucked. Danault has been ok. Why did kings trade him and acquire Laughton? Carrier has been a shell compared to last year. Newhook isnt big and powerful or skilled enough for top six.
Writing is on the wall for Arber, so i for 1 hope to see him move to the wing rather than see him move on to another team.
Dach Laine Carrier and sadly Gally will not return next season
I like Kirby but its time to go and part ways
At this point, Kirby injured again isn't even news… It's just ground hog day.
Get some more sand paper. No offense Kirby
I'd sign Kirby 3 years at 2.5m
