All these moves Yzerman made don't move the needle in the slightest because the wings will have the usual March collapse and miss the playoffs for 10th year in a row
So pretty much traded Soderblom, Buchelnikov and a 1st round pick for Justin Faulk. That's still a very solid trade because he has one more year on his contract and isn't a rental.
The thing that worries me most about Faulk is heβs supposed was a career negative as a member of the Hurricanes. A team that plays excellent team D and Faulk was severely negative most years
Why does everyone say steve doesnt trade??? How did gibson get here? How did cat get here? Yeah compher sucks but we did trade for him and at that point it was a good trade. He basically traded veleno for Gibson and he traded Burt for Cat and MBN. Steve is doing just fine. Not overpaying for players is a good quality for a GM. Perron is just fine he will fit right in. again.
Dumb move by Yzerman. Holl, Buchelnikov, Soderblom (3rd round pick the got from the Pens) and a 2026 1st for a 34 year old defenseman that isn't good defensively and a 30 points guy offensively. Playing him with Chiarot will be a horrible defensive pair and if you break up Edvinsson and Chiarot, you will have 2 average to below average pairs instead of 1 solid pair.
The price for Thomas was 4 1st rounders in any combination of prospects or picks. You cannot pay that for him. The price for Trochek was allegedly 3 1st or two 1st and two 2nd combination. Too steep of a price unless you are the Cup front runner The price for OEL was a 1st and a 2nd picks and a prospect (think MBN) the leafs are out of their minds Faulk cost a 1st and a 3rd (they did not want Soderblom) and the Buch came with the kicker you take Holl too. Its an overpay but also fair market for trade deadline acquisition of a player with term. Still not the same overpay the 3 other options previously mentioned would have been. It is rumored that Sergei Federov spoke to Buch today about his intent to be in NA next season to ensure that making this move was done with the intent that he had low to no chance of being part of the immediate future.
I like the move. The piece no one is talking about is the prospect. Buchelnikov has major upside. His plan is to come to North America next year. He might become the Blues best offensive prospect quickly. Only time will tell.
The best part of today's show was Yzerman making this move while that idiot Canadian caller was waiting on hold to trash him for not doing anything. Dudes wheels were spinning in a million different directions when he finally got on the air. Top of the evening to you! π

Cheers to the black people praying for us nhl fans. To you
Wings suck, yzerman sucks and Larkin is a lousy captain
LOL are fans high? Faulk fills a desperate need behind our first pairing. This absolutely moves the needle, whether you like Yzerman or hate him.
The fact Buchelnikov had to be included lowers the grade a bit
Terrible
Justin Holl, a 1st and 3rd round picks for Faulk. So basically a 1st round pick for Faulk when Detroit got a 3rd round pick for Elmer.

Overpay
It's a very good top 4 now, definitely playoff level

"Is This What God Feels Like?"…LOLOLOLOLOL
Damn we missed the cathartic clip of Rico talking about how Yzerman won't do anything only for this to come seconds later
Holl is a good loss. Faulk can snipe from the blueline. Elmer is sad loss.
This βJust inββ¦ we got Faulked
Beautiful deal….wow.
Who?
still weak up the middle…

Faulk will be 34 years old in 2 weeks…this was a terrible trade
Nice to know at least 1 GM in the city of Detroit has a pair.
i have had shits better than this show
How smart does the Hughes trade look now. Prices went way up at the deadline.
Who? Never heard of him. Looking at his stats I can see why I never heard of him.
ππππππ
We can thank Larks for the trades he's the only one on the team who stepped up & said last years trade deadline was B.S.
I mean okay, Iβve got no reason to be THAT upset, I hate losing Buchelnikov, but if Faulk can be a contributing factor in a playoff run, so be it

Buchelnikov goes to St Louis lol
