well I am going to harp on last year… they looked this way last year. They looked exactly the same. Berube has been a nightmare since he arrived. They went from being one of the most explosive offensive teams in the league to being in the bottom 5 in literally every statistically tracked metric since he got here last year included. Last year was one of the most fraudulently successful years in sports history and I was calling it out all last year and being told I was crazy because they are winning the division. I also keep hearing Berube isn't an x's and o's guy he is a motivator…what is he motivating they look like dogshit to start literally every game.
Go back and look at the shots against, puck possession, time spent in your own zone… The Leafs were in the bottom 5 in the league last year in all of these the difference is their goalies had a .925SV% and a 2.00GAA

they cant even tank because tre traded away all the 1sts and top prospects for what amounts to magic beans. now he is going to try to hold a fire sale??? jfc. the team is doomed. there is no fixing this team. management refused to read the writing on the wall that the core 4 was never going to get it done and move one of them. they kept tryinig to trade to make the core 4 leaders when they simply are not leaders to build around. they are all like kessel…a piece that is nice to have but not who you build the team around. the window never opened. look at the caps. they finally decided to change the core and finally won a cup. leafs just kept trying to run it back. they also stopped the rebuild too soon and started to make retarded trades and never developing their own players.

These guys still have blue and white disease despite all the tough talk. Why are you asking Matthews anything? He’s on the back 9 of his career, why can’t Leaf fans accept that? You don’t ask him anything. This summer you say to him the team is rebuilding and we can’t give you a new contract in 2 years of 15+ million a year in your 30s because that will hamper the rebuild so tell us 10 places that you would like to go and we’ll set up a trade. Matthews will not take a pay cut in 2 years.
Trade him in the summer while his value is still high, it’s only gonna get lower from there. When a player has 2 average seasons in a row, it’s because he has digressed, not bad luck or a bad coach. They can still get a great haul for him but that won’t last long. I don’t care what kind of rebuild you do, its not gonna work if you’re paying Matthews 15-16 million a year going into his mid 30s when he has already started regressing in his late 20s and you’re paying an Nylander 11.5 million in his 30s at the same time.
What other profession you can make millions and just quit while still making those millions?

Even if Tanev was somehow the reason the defence sucks, are you relying on an injury prone player in his late 30s with a ton of mileage to be even close to be consistently healthy next year to save the defence? When everyone on your defence is slow and plodding in their mid 30s and the league is getting faster then how does it not blow up in your face quickly? Talk about a lack of foresight.
As a pens fan I think a retool could still work for you guys look what we’re doing rn everyone thought we would be terrible this season we were last season but we’re shocking a lot of people rn this season and we’re really building for the future at the same time with all the draft picks we have rn and young players like Kindel already making contributions it can be done, maybe you guys shouldn’t have let Dubas go could just be another mistake by the leafs tbh lol.

When Marner Matthews and Nylander were rookies, that was the time to build up the foundation with goal tending and Defense, and what did they do? They then broke the piggy bank for JT, instead of building the foundation. Now here they are, another decade wasted by poor management.
