Hellebuyck Headlines & Hockey Resumes

It’s not something we can ignore.

This show doesn’t typically wade into politics, but today it’s unavoidable. During the State of the Union address, President Donald Trump announced that Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom following Team USA’s 2-1 overtime gold medal victory over Canada. The decision has sparked plenty of reaction, and the guys share their thoughts on the entire situation.

On the ice, the Winnipeg Jets return to action tonight in Vancouver against the Canucks. Winnipeg will be without several key players due to injury, including Neal Pionk, Josh Morrissey, and Nino Niederreiter. Ville Heinola makes his season debut — how do you feel about the Jets’ chances against the league’s last-place team?

Jason Brough of Sportsnet 650 in Vancouver joins the show to discuss what lies ahead for the Canucks this season and beyond.

All that and more on today’s edition of Jets at Noon.

  1. You guys act like poor Helly had no choice in the matter. There is always a choice to stand up and say no. KFC made a choice. Helly has a daughter and he chose to chum it up with a racist child rapist. Gutless. You taking heads are the PR team for the jets.

  2. Congrats hellbuck and the US team for winning the Olympics and no back to NHL hockey and the Jets retool this year and playoffs next year

  3. that's an incorrect take. This isn't political anymore this isn't left or right. This is right and wrong. What we see clear and evident is a man toddler covering up child sex crimes using the justice system to protect himself arresting US citizens, Canadian tourists and threatening war with our country. Hell y plays for a Canadian team. This is not like finding out after we know what he's about and unfortunately accepting it means endorsing it with this man. Yes helly he should have said no It doesn't define him as a person but this was a terrible decision that will reflect on the Winnipeg Jets. You may hate discussing it, but he made the choice for all of us🎉

  4. That being said. A lot of fans seem to forget that it could take generations to find a franchise goaltender and one who considers this place's home. Good on him. What we do need to do is to change our scouts, our drafting process, and rehall our Manitoba moose coaching system completely. We know the system that works for us and we should be drafting players that will fit or exceed in that system. Letting a critical part like Nick go. We lost speed on the four check and zone entry chaos. I think Kevin is a good man, but he lacks complete foresight and I hope you learn from this. Trading ehlers at the deadline mean we could have retained a part of our system with the same type of player and injected some youth to speed up our forward lines with our experienced veterans. Can you imagine how good 55 would be with an early twenties power forward who can skate like the wind and cause complete chaos?

  5. You guys are gross. Glazing Hellebuyck at this juncture receiving an award from a person that is responsible for the atrocities that are occurring right now is disgusting. You would have been better off saying nothing. No matter how much you suck up, the Jets aren’t giving you a job. You should try having a little integrity. Maybe people would actually take you seriously and you’d have more than 900 subs. Make that 899.
