Words mean nothing compared to actions. They went too far. I started following hockey in 2020, and this sport saved me from depression. Because of Patrice Bergeron, I chose the Boston Bruins, and the team became a great love of mine. People often ask, “You’re Brazilian — how can you like this sport?” I don’t know. Some things we simply love without explanation. But the frustration hurts. I believe the NHL will never truly evolve, and I blame prejudice, sexism, and the backward mindset in the U.S. It’s a shame that part of that love has faded — especially when players you once admired do stupid things. It feels like we’ll never have someone as good on and off the ice as Bergeron again.
They had the chance not to meet with an aging, out-of-touch politician — and choosing to go anyway was another letdown.
I'll give him props for recognizing that their reaction to that comment wasnt appropriate, which as far as im aware, no one else on the team has done. But he loses credibility when he takes beaming photos with Karoline Leavitt and attends the SOTU, which is intrinsically a political event.
Bruins and NHL PR desperately want you to think that these men are just simple patriots and athletes that unify; the truth is that mens hockey is predominantly full of affluent conservative men who are definitely partisan.
Do not believe them when they complain that things are too political when they are at least complicit in propaganda, and at worst embracing it.
You apparently haven't been listening to all the responses from the public. There's a large group of fans who you and Charlie let down with your actions in the last few days. The women's team deserves a real apology (that includes the word "sorry" and not laughter). You're allowed to be proud of your win, but you should be ashamed of your celebrations.
Clearly they haven’t been paying close enough attention to the responses from Sunday after the game. There is very little love and support for men’s hockey, the players on this Olympic team, USA hockey, the nhl, and more. Love and support is for the PWHL and women’s hockey team because they aren’t sellouts and actually represent the USA.
People saying they are disappointed in these guys who went to Italy and won OLYMPIC gold are so pathetic. They shouldn’t be forced to apologize for laughing at an obvious joke. And people want them traded from the team because of it?? This is hockey. Grow up and if you want to be so offended and play victim for no reason, there is the WNBA who will cater to your sensitive side

I’m not going to lie. I went into these Olympics as a huge fan of Sway’s, but I didn’t leave as one. Immensely disappointing to see him and some of the others on the team first of all accept the invitation, but then also cosy up to the monster who sent it, and his cronies. All I can say is I hope this whole situation gets more people into watching the PWHL. At least the players there have backbone. You’ve let down a lot of fans, boys. This goes deeper than the game.

Props to Scott McLaughlin to actually asking a real question about how Swayman, McAvoy, and others were there laughing along with Trump belitting the women's team. Shameful questions from the other reporters just setting him up to agree he cares so much about the other goal medal winning hockey team and letting him totally off the hook about it. The softest of softballs about going to the State of the Union. Nothing about why the FBI director was in their locker room celebrating like a make a wish recipient. Nothing about him getting photographed with Tage Thompson, Jack and Quinn Hughes wearing MAGA hats. "How excited were you?" "Very" Great journalism.
