The NHL trade deadline is March 6, and rumors are swirling about a blockbuster move between the Calgary Flames and the Montreal Canadiens. The biggest name on the table is veteran center Nazem Kadri. Insiders report that Montreal is looking for a Stanley Cup champion to lead their young top six. Kadri fits that mold perfectly, and he was a Canadiens fan growing up.
Calgary appears to be heading toward a full rebuild. They recently traded Rasmus Andersson and may be looking to move other veterans like Blake Coleman and MacKenzie Weegar. In return, the Canadiens could offer young assets like Joshua Roy or Owen Beck. There is even talk that Montreal might move Patrik Laine to Calgary to make the salary cap numbers work.
A deal like this would change the future for both franchises. Montreal would get the veteran “bite” they need for a playoff push. Calgary would stock up on the prospects and picks they need to start fresh. With the Olympic break over, these talks are expected to intensify quickly.

I would take a pass on him , Calgary is going to want to much for him and with 3 years left that’s a big no thanks
Yea, Good player , but the timeline just doesn’t work! He would be an upgrade, but, considering what we will have to give up for him!..
Xheja, 2026 1st & Laine, conditional 2027 3rd becoming a 2nd if they get to conference finals for Kadri with 2.0 mill retained
Kadri for Liane and Dach. If Calgary retains there should be a pick included.
Montreal has indeed done a stellar job rebuilding and are loaded with prospects and still have decent draft capital to work with. They're not deviating from what has largely worked to overpay for an aging Kadri with several years left. If they're going to pay a stupid price to land a long term, legit 2C, they will go younger to suit their core. But, I suspect not and they'll be patient with Hage and Kapanen already showing potential and in the system.
U forgot to mention the fact that Calgary doesn’t shy away in doing salary retention so Kadri’s contract isn’t a problem at all
No way I would give a roster player except Laine and a first for Kadri.
I would be surprised if Hughes gets a top 6 player this season .
The original rebuild plan was for it to be slow and steady .
They seem to have invested a lot in scouting and player development and if you look at what guys like Slafkovsky , Demidov and Hutson are becoming i would stay the course if i was them .
Especially with guys like Hage , Zharovsky and Pickford still in the pipeline .
I believe they will stick to development , free agency or trade during the draft/summer .
need a lot more than a prospect for Kadri he's a proven pro? come on man. Noyhing less than a 1st round pick & a top prospect.
Habs have done a really good job, they are primed to be one of the best teams in the division for years to come.
