In a thrilling conclusion to the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, Jack Hughes etched his name into American hockey lore by scoring the golden goal in overtime, securing Team USA a 2-1 victory over rival Canada in the men’s hockey final.

Earlier in the third period, Hughes took a high stick to the mouth from Canada’s Sam Bennett, knocking out two front teeth and drawing a double minor penalty. Bloodied and missing teeth, the New Jersey Devils star refused to stay down. He returned to the ice and, at 1:41 of overtime, capitalized on a turnover. Zach Werenski stripped the puck and fed Hughes, who slipped a low shot under Jordan Binnington’s pad for the winner.
