Prospect Pipeline: Olympic Break Check-In

Brian Smith and Bill Meltzer take a mid-break trip around the Flyers system, including a look at the Lehigh Valley Phantoms coming out of the AHL all-star break. Bill brings us up to speed on some of the team’s standouts at the junior and international levels as well.

  1. Danny built a team and prospect pipeline that reflects the way he played. Small and scrappy. On the roster we have Matvei, Brink, Andrae, and Barkey. Most teams have 1. We have 4. Then there are guys like Jett, Bonk, Kyrou, and Bump in the minors. It was only until they hired Tocchet did Danny focus more on putting size in the pipeline. They have some guys like Berglund (?) and Martone coming. They need more big high end talent. Players with size can open up the ice for the smaller players. Also helps if guys like Matvei stop trying to play their entire shift along the boards.

  2. The less the Flyer players play the better for me .
Selfishly I want them all back healthy for the push to the end of our season .

  3. I unfortunately think a package deal will have to unfold with a huge package of picks, prospects and nhl-ready talent for a high end 1C, 1D or 1G option the Flyers so desperately need.

  4. I've said this a lot of times before but can they just fold the franchise? Like I just don't see the point in going forward. I don't ever see this team turning things around. Like we are looking at least 15 more years of mediocrity at minimum.

  5. Good info, thank you. Hoping I get lucky in that when the Frozen Four locations/matches are set next month. I'll be at the games in Colorado and it would be so great if a Flyer or two came to town on their way to hopefully play in Vegas.

  6. I have no problem with Jett being a pass first center as long as he plays with shoot first wingers. The concern id Jett is only a point per game player in the OHL and impact NHL players are closer to 2 pts per game in the OHL.
