According to reports, Andersson made it clear he wouldn’t sign an extension in Boston, which ultimately took the Bruins out of the race. That opened the door for Vegas — and now many around the league (and in Calgary) believe the Golden Knights are confident they can get him locked up long-term.
So what really happened behind the scenes?
And is Vegas already lining up a new deal?
Boomer & Pinder break down all the latest info, what it means for the Flames, and why this trade might look VERY different a year from now.

I wish we could trade Murray Edwards,Don Bologna and a 5th rounder for
Bill Foley, McCrimmon and 2 of the ice girls
Just brutal. Brutal return. A 7th round pick/prospect and a 29 year old defenseman just getting in the way of these kids. The Flames backed themselves into a corner. Andersson will sign with Vegas because all these dumbasses sign with Vegas. Fuck Vegas.
NHL is becoming just like the MLB
would love to see him go free agent fuck vegas
After hearing u guys how sleazy is vegas?
Wonder what they would have got if they traded him a year ago
Vegas overpaid.
no excuse for brutal return. There is a month til the trade deadline. There are teams that haven't even made up their mind if they will be buyers that might get into the market. Vegas would have come up. Fact Vegas picks will be low in draft is why you HAVE to demand a higher level prospect. Vegas would have caved on this if the stupid GM wasn't in panic mode trying to do this before Olympics for no reason at all. Complete incompetence.
Hanifin trade 2.0. Another complete waste, another great player who actually moves the needle gone for some late first and second round gambles and a roster block of a player, can't wait to watch this team use these picks to draft some more players with a middle 6 ceiling. Pathetic team is not worth watching in this era.
What took leverage away was not trading him a year ago.
Dick move by andersson though Boston was willing to give more with a extension
I am sure there are clauses protecting the flames for an extension signed after the trade.
I think it's a good return for the Flames. He's not getting younger, so any LT extension wouldn't be wise.
As a bruins fan. I’m ecstatic the bruins didn’t over pay.
So now they do the same dumb shit with Coleman?
You guys would just Bitvh that Conroy traded Ras at his lowest value if He made the trade last yr…He was horrible that yr
Vegas doesn't break the rules, they play the game that any other team can as well, and some do. Don't be jealoys
Preferred Deal for Anderson or the Calgary Flames? Why are the Flames Catering to Vegas? 2 Deals in a Row for Defensive Players and Basically nothing back in Return… Picks are okay but that years down the Road…
Time for an overhaul From GM down…
I was very underwhelmed when I 1st heard the deal but knowing now he wouldn't sign an extension. That makes all the difference and a 1st and a 2nd or maby two 1sts is a home run. Calgary put themselves in that situation by waiting so long to deal him but given where they all were I think this is a great deal today.
Zach Whitecloud is much more than a roster player!!
hes vastly overated
Classic flames move. Conroy needs to be more of a shark and go for what kind of team he wants, not wait around and see what teams have to offer. Take a risk, stop catering to players. Be the boss.
Boston … Abusive owner & front office … Toxic .. Just look at the Swayman negotiations.
It's easy to say 'he should have been traded July 1st' but, considering how poorly he played last year, do you really think the return would have been better than it was now?
Vegas doesn’t give a s*** about anyone’s feelings. Meanwhile in Calgary it’s “oh we gotta wait for anyone to come to us before we trade them.” And then those same players control everything.
We’re the cucks of the league.
Thank God!!!!! He's a star in his own mind, average player at best.
