Trade him for picks. Free up some cap space to keep Schmaltz and Cooley will be here for the center position and allow us to develop the younger prospects.
He’s been more detrimental in key moments and he’s not developing well in Utah.

Part of the equation is what we do with Stenlund and Schmaltz, and even Kerfoot to an extent. Our center depth has really been exposed this year, and I would be happy to bridge him with about 3 years while Desi and CoBo are working their way into the lineup. I'm with you that I think he fits better as a bottom 6 center. He is also a piece we could use if BA makes any trades at the center position.
I like the analysis but I disagree. There's only 4 center spots on the team and plenty of players to fill those 4 spots, Schmaltz, Cooley, McBain, Stenlund, Beaudoin, Desnoyers, Kerfoot, even Iginla is playing C these days. I would even take Rooney or Agozzino over Hayton (they probably have a better PTS/60 haha). Hayton does not deserve one of those center spots. We should trade him for a prospect and a pick. Or trade him + our picks for a good player. I hope Hayton has a successful career somewhere and I hope the best for him, but not on the Mammoth next year.
Hayton doesn’t have to play center. Let’s think about this; Cools, Schmaltz & McBain are the top 3 Centers and Beaudoin will be the 4C next year. Stenny, Carcone, Kerfoot & Yams will be gone. Put Hayton on a wing with But or Iginla on the other wing. It would be a solid 4 lines

Just like JJ Moser, I think Hayden would do well with a change of scenery…NJ, Philly, Detroit and Chicago are all places that could unveil is actual potential…
