I would be shocked if any contender took the Drouin and/or Duclair contracts for free, much less give us anything. It is likely a contender would give a 1st for Pager and a 2nd for Lee since they would be protected late round picks. It would give both a shot at a cup, and we could sign them as UFA's in the summer.
The right answer is to not make buyers phone calls but always answer incoming calls and if a Team makes an offer on Lee , Drouin , Pageau , DuClair or Defense not name MS You have the conversations , You do not give up future assets to put lipstick on a pig that cannot win the Cup this Year barring an absolute miracle , Make the playoffs get Guys like Holmstrom, Matthew Schneider, Ritchie and other young Player Playoff experience and use those 2 1st round picks to continue to feed that pipeline
Would you rather have jg pageu for the next two years or would you rather have Steven Stamkos? I understand what J GP gives us and that we would be losing that but stamkos solves some problems also. Center for center short term.
Trade Lee and Drouin. Try to extend Pageau, but if he's not agreeable to a team friendly contract, deal him also. Pageau and Lee have been really good Islanders, but it's a business and the Islanders can't less assets walk for nothing (not that Drouin is an asset).
Trade both get what you can move on. Get younger and faster. Team may make the playoffs but it will be a short run. Get picks and prospects move as many vets as possible.
The idea of trading either Lee or Pageau during a playoff run is just so non-sensical. If it makes it easier, just imagine we just acquired both of them as rentals. That should eliminate this “we can’t afford to lose them for nothing” mindset.

They come out of the break and lose three in a row and they both should be gone. Win three and they stand pat.

The return wont be worth giving up a chance to make the playoffs….nobody is giving you a 1st for anyone
The eastern conference is a toss up right now trade one of them and sign someone who will stay here for a while
