As a young woman, on the topic of flirting at the gym, you can approach a woman and ask her out precisely one time. If she says no, you must never speak to her again. Even casually.
I met a girl at the gym who had this guy ask her out and then keep talking to her every time she went and she was so creeped out by it that she ended up leaving. He was invading her personal time and making her uncomfortable and he ruined that place for her. You get one shot and that's it.
I know that might sound extreme, but women need to feel safe in the places that they go regularly. And if you keep hounding someone who says they're not interested, even if you think you're being friendly, it comes across a certain type of way.
