There was no point for LA to make the deal. Drury on the other hand is getting unfairly blamed. Gorton gave Panarin the NMC as a UFA so NY got him for free and it was a very good signing so Rangers fans are simply wrong if they blame either Drury or Gorton.

Drury turned Ken Holland from the least respected GM in the NHL to respectable, and cemented Drury the most disrespected GM/President and Worst NHL GM.
This was a breath of fresh air in an otherwise smog ridden environment.

Drury needs to be fired immediately. And this is not solely based on the Bread trade, thereās so much more over the past years and it all leads to him absolutely destroying this organization.
I donāt care what people sayā¦. The animosity Drury has for his president trophy winning team is apparent. Maybe it was the Goodrow debacle but something was the first domino to fall and it caused a massive divide between the team and Drury. I believe Druryās ego couldnāt take it and out of spite he started to dismantle this team and culture. The players from that team obviously despise him. Drury is absolutely the worst GM in sports. Fan of his from his playing days but he is a coward and a fraud as a GM.

OR the Rangers were LIVID -that Panarin was accused of assaulting a female employee and that the Rangers had to shell out an undisclosed amount of cash to make her go away – to drop her lawsuit and not go public .signing a non-disclosure agreement . And just despite his on ice brilliance they wanted him GONE . Does that now explain why Panarin said they didn't even make me an offer – they didn't seem to want me around ………

There's been many of trades where a team traded a star player and thought they got a kings ransom in return only to see a few years later none of those players or picks turned into anything. Let's wait and see what Greentree does he's the key to the deal.
As awful as Drury is, Panarin deserves most of the blame for this. All he did was screw over the fanbase.

After Kopitar retires, the Center position is gonna be really weak for the Kings. Theyād need a 1C or at the very least a 2C with a possible 1C ceiling. However, their wingers are pretty stacked.
Scouting on Greentree is he can't skate at 20 years old playing against 16-18 year olds. Drury has taken the Eastern Conference finalists to the worst team in the NHL in 2 years – that's some achievement.
The assessment by coaches in our farm system: "There are no future NHLers here" – and before he was President and GM of the Rangers, Drury was GM of the farm teams.
He's handed out horrible contracts, especially Shesterkin's – pissing away any cap space and hands out NMCs like candy on Halloween. He trades for JT Miller who is locker room cancer and was run out of Tampa and Vancouver and made him Captain!!!

This a warning to all the fans who wants their team to trade a player with a NMC. Sitting Panarin to force him to agree to a trade results in this type of return. Added to the poor return, who will want to sign with the Rangers when they agreed you had total control of where you play then humiliate you to agree to a trade? The Rengers' team culture must be crap.

All the Drury comments make me laugh, hey guys you have to remember, hes not in his moms basement playing fantasy hockey like you guys. Panarin only wanted to go to LA, he had all the leverage, but lets pretend that wasnt the case. Its funny nobody was calling him stupid or calling for him to be fired the first three years, when the guys he signed and trades he made, got them to 2 Conference Finals and a Presidents. He got 1, 2 and Morrow K Miller etc. He has had no cap space for 5 years, next year he does, so we ll what he does with it. Last year the crybabies quit, thats on them, not Drury. This year they have gone long periods without Fox and Shesterkins and they cant win and arent going to make the playoffs, imagine that. So throw your little temper tantrums if it make you feel better, but it shows you have no clue about the cap, Panarin screwing the Rangers over by only wanting to go to one team, having no memory of the first three years and the good deals he made.

Apparently no one outside of LA Kings fans have figured out that Byfield sucks. Heās way overrated and hit his ceiling a couple seasons ago. Heās fast, strong, but makes terrible passes and has no hockey sense.

There was no reason to issue Letter 2.0 and no reason to state definitively that they would be moving on from Panarin. Drury should have played his cards much closer to the vest and made it uncertain as to whether NYR might in fact agree to an extension with Panarin. He could've asked Panarin to at least give him a chance to match whichever new contract offer he received from whichever team he would eventually agree to get traded to. Then Drury could've signed Panarin if the trade offer was too low, and used that as a chip to up any trade offer.

Panarin also:

Only with time will Rangers fans realize he's a club legend.
Panarin ā one of the most underrated players in the NHL. But it's also his fault too ā if he'd played in Tampa Bay, for example, with Kucherov (they had a great partnership in the Russian national team) and won the Stanley Cup, everything would have been different. But he chose comfort and money, and he couldn't care less about the Stanley Cup, unfortunately.
Drury had basically had 3 rebuilds. He already traded Goodrow, Kreider, Trouba and Miller.

I think this was a bad trade, not like the Dallas Mavericks giving Luka Doncic away to the Lakers, but what the heck is it with these LA teams that continue to get great players for darned near nothing. Remember a guy named Gretzky?

Rangers painted themselves into a corner. The no move clause and the public announcement that the Rangers wouldnāt consider re-signing Panarin left them with no leverage. No one is giving up the farm for a guy you can go after for nothing in the summer.
There are some deep-seated issues in the Rangers franchise that is evident on the ice. Four coaches in eight years, three highly credible and two took them to the Eastern Conference Final. They're gameplay hasn't changed for either one of those coaches that even the announcers and intermission hosts are basically saying night after night "WTF are they doing?". They traded the players that got them far that are doing better on other teams. Panarin wasn't the savior of the franchise. Easy 100 point seasons when everyone defaults to him handling the puck, but how many more blind east to west passes resulted in breakaways for the other team.
