FULL EP: https://youtu.be/4VYPrWQ27xU

While at the University of Utah, Andre Miller got the rare chance to run pickup games against John Stockton, Karl Malone, and Jeff Hornacek. In this clip, he recalls those battles and shows love to his Utes teammate Keith Van Horn’s talent.

  1. 1998 was so awesome. Too bad Doleac was so worn out in the championship game. And Karl let Jordan steal the ball….

  2. Growing up a BYU fan it was rough watching Miller and them run roughshod over the WAC and MWC. I hated them but I respected them too because they played the game the right way. Team first, defensive minded, hitting the boards, fundamentally sound.

  3. Andre Miller is awesome. He has the enthusiasm of a third grader giving a report in front of his class on his favorite subject.

  4. I remember he came to my school to speak. It’s funny to think he was there as a punishment 😂😂😂. Great guy, though. And, he encouraged me to be on his son’s 3 on 3 team. We didn’t do so good 😂

  5. Those were some good years in Utah- Jazz back to back finals, and the Utes in the championship game in 98.

  6. Portland Fan here – Andre' is my favorite Trail Blazer – best game to come through Portland. His 52 against Dallas is one of my favorite games ever.

  7. I remember going up to the Hyper gym and getting some runs in. Them boys were no joke. KVH was the truth! But still feel like people slept on them Johnson brothers. Britt was deadly. And Jeff I think had no quit in him. Utah basketball was so good back then.

  8. Watched every game Dre played at the Huntsman Center from row 20. Saw him at Blockbuster once and only heard his voice first, thought Richard Pryor was in the house! Still remember his final home game vs Fresno State w Rader Alston , Chris Herren and Tari the shark at head coach. Triple double machine with all the athleticism in the world but he played close to the floor wisely.

  9. I watched a pickup game with Andre and Keith Van Horn at the Life Center in Sandy when I was 15. It's one of the highlights of my teen years.

  10. I met Andre at a UofU basketball camp for high school players in 97 or 98 (don't remember which year it was exactly). He challenged me to a 1 on 1 and I thought I could at least score once on him. His ball control and ability to get to the basket was insane. I didn't score a single point, and I couldn't defend him at all. Up until that point I thought I might play basketball in college. My eyes were opened to how big the gap between us really was.

  11. I was a kid in Utah when Miller played at Utah. Those were some really fun years to have Utah go all the way to the finals and the Jazz do the same twice. I always rooted for Miller in the NBA afterwards.

  12. Shoutout to Andre Miller (and Michael Doleac) from a kid who grew up in the Boise, Idaho area. I went to the University of Utah’s basketball camp in the summer of 1996—right before my senior year—and Andre was there all week, helping out and interacting with us high-school players.

What stuck with me was how friendly, humble, and genuine he was. He jumped into pickup with us, talked with us, and never acted like he was above anybody. It left a big impression on me.

Huge thanks to Michael Doleac too. One morning he told us if we showed up early, he’d run an extra post workout. I wasn’t even a post player, but I got up early and he was there—worked with us for an hour before camp officially started. Keith Van Horn also stopped by one day to do a shooting session, which was awesome—but Andre was there the whole time.

This was long before NIL, and I don’t think anyone was getting paid to be there; they were just giving back. I carried that memory through Andre’s NBA career and cheered for him the whole way because I knew from experience he’s the real deal—a good person who didn’t have to be there, but chose to. That mattered to a lot of young players like me who were just trying to get better for our high-school teams.

So to anyone reading this: Andre Miller is the real deal. Class act then, class act now.

  13. I loved Andre before I saw this interview but I even love and respect him more after watching this. What a good man!! Talking so nice and it’s so cool that he loved and still loves his teammates!! Those Utah Utes teams were special with Andre leading the way!!!
