Is Paul Coffey Returning? Oilers Fan Reaction & Discussion | Plus Potential Trade Targets!

There is a lot of speculation in Oil Country that Paul Coffey could be brought back by the Edmonton Oilers to go behind the bench and take care of the defence for the team. Would this be the right call? Also, the trade deadline is not long after the Olympic Break so I thought I’d discuss different names and potential players the Oilers could and/or should target. Let me know all of your thoughts! #oilers #edmontonoilers #nhl

  1. Thank goodness olympics are here. I'm just getting depressed watching the Oil lately. I hope it's not too late for us even with coaching changes. Coffey was a good coach last year.

  2. Would it be nice if he returned as defensive coach? IMO sure. Does he want to? Don't know. Does the organization as a whole want him to return? Don't know.

  3. No matter wat management do….got 2 yrs of McDavid….he will be a history for Oilers then

  4. Here is my question. Should the oilers eat some of Nurses salary to get rid of him? He is nowhere near an elite defender. He is being paid like though.

  5. What is the dumbest thing Bowman Jackson can do now? Keep knob in and Coffey out, trade away 97 and 29 to Kenny Holland in LA and get a bunch more Fredricks

  6. If you think for a minute that Coffee is gonna come back and take over as defensive coach your have your head screwed on backwards. I can't see him coming back to fix the shit that has happened to this group. They are the laughing stock of the league with two of the most talented men in franchise history and this is what they are gonna do to fix the issue! Maybe just maybe they should have kept guys rather than just kick them to the curb, now look they are struggling to make the playoffs with this group, not a chance Jonesy! When you have one of your most talented guys calling out everyone from the top to the bottom well that tells you something eh! There is a disconnect in that room and it started way back before they had issues with Skinner and it shows.

  7. Remember how well the Oilers played for 2 games without draiaitl?
Best 2 games of the year. 29 is selfish, turns the pockover consistently, and a big part of the problem.

  8. Please, please, please Coffee come back. We need you 😅. We want you lead us in the right direction. Let’s get a cup for the team👍

  9. Coffey as HC. Hire Todd Nelson as assistant coach. Nelson was never given a fair chance by this organization. He did well with the less skilled Condors team back then. Won multiple championships in the AHL and now it seems like the Pens offence is clicking. Give him another opportunity.

  10. Holloway, Broberg, Perry, Brown, and a goaltending tandem which is no better than the two that took them to the cup finals twice and costs almost twice as much all points to the end. Thankfully Oiler fans are finally coming to the realization that McDavid is not winning in Edmonton. Only the media is keeping the fans from chanting "rebuild now". Of course that will not happen but what will happen is by the summer of 2028 the Oiler veterans trade worth will have significantly declined, most of the draft picks traded away with the young prospects and it probably will be around 2038 before the Oilers will have a team that the fans can rally behind as a cup contender. IT IS DONE! IT IS OVER!
I would rather the Oiler media talk about why Brown and Perry left. The Oilers could have matched their current contracts that was before they signed Frederic to a totally unbelievable 8 year deal. The only explanation I can think of is that the Oiler GM was under some other influence other than the best interest of the team. Perry and Brown played their hearts out on team friendly deals. Think about that slap to the face. That punch to the gut when Frederick signs his extension. Media isn't interested in digging up the why on that one. Think about your job Oiler fans. You are working your butt off making minimum wage and a new employee who is under performing comes in at 2 to 3 times your salary. Yeah.

  11. The only concern I have with Coffey, is not his performance. Guy did a bang up job, especially with Bouchard, so he could be highly useful.

The only concern I have, is his genuine desire to do the job. He had left, openly claiming he did not want to be in that position long-term. He had come to help.

Does he really "want" to do this again? If he does, then I'm fully on-board with it. He's one of the "ex-Oilers", that is more than just that. He's competent, and good at his role behind that bench.

  12. I'm sorry, perhaps I was uninformed, I was under the impression Coffey was in charge of the defensive core. When did this change, and why?

  13. Paul Coffey is not coming back. He has stated that he does not want be a coach. And, even if they somehow lured him out, it would cause major conflict with Knoblauch. So…it ain't gonna happen.
